Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical Telemetry Float Pool
Location: Garden City, Kansas (Zone 4)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days

Job Overview
- Float pool position covering multiple facilities within a 60-mile radius of Garden City, KS.
- No home base facility; travelers must be prepared to float across various hospitals and units within the zone.
- Units include Medical-Surgical Telemetry with specialties spanning Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Emergency Department Observation.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios typically range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on patient acuity.
- Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance and may follow one of two formats:
- Assigned to a single facility for the week with possible intra-facility floating.
- Just-In-Time (JIT) assignments where the facility is assigned 1–2 hours before shift start.
Patient Population & Care
- Adult to geriatric patients with diagnoses including but not limited to:
- Cardiac, Neurological, Orthopedic, Oncology, Renal, Urology post-surgical, General Surgery post-appendectomy, Gynecology, Psychiatry/Detox, ENT, General Medicine, and stable long-term placement patients.
- Heparin drip titration required.
- Respiratory therapy equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP) is used on units.
- Charge nurses are designated per unit and typically do not take patient assignments unless necessary.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kansas
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing experience
- Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing experience within the last year
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Scheduling & Work Expectations
- 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. day shifts.
- 6 to 9 weekend shifts required within each 6-week schedule.
- Holiday rotation participation may be required.
- Rare call or standby duties, typically only during low census periods.
- All time-off requests must be submitted before the assignment start date.
- Travelers must be flexible to fill gaps in permanent staffing and float across different acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Telemetry units.
Orientation & Hiring Process
- Week of orientation requires clinicians to be physically present in-state, even if some modules are completed remotely.
- Interview process includes a candidate interview and a clinical team interview; no unit manager involvement.
Additional Notes
- Travelers are responsible for securing housing that allows floating within the entire 60-mile zone.
- Floating assignments will be communicated on or before the Monday start date.
- Nurse aides are available on units to assist with patient care.
This position is ideal for experienced Medical-Surgical Telemetry RNs who are adaptable, enjoy diverse patient populations, and are comfortable floating across multiple facilities within a defined geographic zone.
