Description
Registered Nurse – Stepdown Unit (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Work on a Stepdown unit with potential to float to similar patient care units including Emergency Department.
- Shift schedule: 3 shifts of 12 hours each (day shift 7:00am–7:30pm or night shift 7:00pm–7:30am), rotating shifts possible based on hospital needs.
- Must work at least every other holiday.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 1.5 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, including experience within the last year.
- Current certifications required:
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- BLS (Basic Life Support) issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
Preferred Qualifications
- Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Progressive Care experience preferred but not required.
- Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred but not required.
Orientation and Onboarding
- Completion of online training modules prior to start is mandatory; modules must be completed on a computer using Google Chrome.
- Modules include facility-specific training and SafeMedicate preparation materials.
- Photo for badge required (headshot, shoulders up, white background).
- Baseline competency exams (medication and ECG) completed at orientation; remediation and retake offered if needed.
- Must submit 2 professional references from within the last year (manager, supervisor, charge nurse, or director).
Additional Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID (driver’s license or state ID) must be carried on assignment.
- Employment application must include at least 3 years of prior work history with 2 years in acute care and similar clinical area.
- Fingerprinting must be completed within 48 hours of contract signing; results required before contract extension.
- Candidates may start with fingerprinting results pending if prints are completed prior to start.
- Candidates must comply with all background checks and education verifications.
Work Environment
- Stepdown unit with potential float to other units caring for similar patient populations.
- Rotating shifts may be required to meet operational needs.
Notes
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required but recent Stepdown travel experience counts toward the experience requirement.
- Passing scores on medication and ECG competency exams are mandatory for all bedside RNs except OR RNs.
- Candidates with gaps less than 6 months since last assignment at this facility may be exempt from some orientation requirements.
This position is ideal for experienced Stepdown RNs licensed in Ohio or compact states, comfortable with 12-hour rotating shifts, and able to meet comprehensive health, certification, and background requirements.
