Description
ER Registered Nurse Travel Assignment
Location: Grand Coulee, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Position: ER Registered Nurse (RN)
- Shift: Nights (6:00 PM – 6:30 AM)
- Schedule: Block scheduling with set rotation; weekend every other week; holiday coverage if on rotation
- Hours: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours/week)
- Department: Emergency Room (Critical Access Trauma Level)
- Patient Volume: Approximately 20 patients per day, mainly adults and geriatrics, some pediatrics
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: Typically 1 RN per shift, depending on acuity; shared charge nurse with inpatient unit
- Work Environment: High stress, must be able to work independently
- Floating: May float to acute care to assist with patients or answer lights if ER is not busy
Required Certifications
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) or ENPC (Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course)
- TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) or ATCN (Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses)
- Preferred: NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Washington
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience
- Emergency Department experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification
- BLS certification
- ENPC certification
- PALS certification
- TNCC or ATCN certification
Clinical Responsibilities & Skills
- Triage patients in a separate triage area
- Care for patients in holding areas intermixed with ER patients
- Manage common adult and geriatric diagnoses such as CHF, COPD, pneumonia, abdominal pain, and a variety of other conditions
- Administer and monitor cardiac drips, insulin drips, nitroglycerin, heparin, and antibiotics
- Perform breath treatments, ABGs, and EKGs (Respiratory Therapists are not on-site 24/7)
- Interpret telemetry and monitor data without dedicated telemetry techs
- Draw labs and start IVs; phlebotomy support available as needed
- Collaborate with CRNAs for sedation and intubation procedures
- Transport patients for X-Ray and CT scans available 24/7
Facility & Department Details
- Trauma Level: Critical Access
- ER Beds: 5 total, including 2 trauma bays
- No separate psychiatric/seclusion rooms
- No 24/7 in-house security
- No nurse aides for general care; EMTs assist during codes
- Respiratory equipment includes CPAP, high flow oxygen, and ventilators until patient transfer
Orientation & Dress Code
- Department-specific orientation: 1 day (additional days discussed if needed)
- Scrub color: Any color allowed
This position is ideal for experienced ER nurses comfortable with independent practice in a critical access hospital setting, providing comprehensive emergency care across a broad patient population.
