Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical Telemetry Float Pool
Location: Centennial, Colorado (Zone 3 – 60 mile radius around Denver City Center)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Job Overview
- Float nurse position covering multiple hospitals within a 60-mile radius of Denver City Center.
- Must be able to float across various units including Medical-Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and ED Observation.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios typically range from 1:5 to 1:6 depending on patient acuity.
- Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance and follow one of two formats:
- Option A: Scheduled at a single facility for the week with possible floating within that facility.
- Option B (Just-In-Time): Facility assigned 1–2 hours before shift start via call.
- Weekend requirement: 6–9 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule.
- Holiday rotation participation may be required.
- Call or standby is rare and only for low census situations.
- Orientation includes 1–2 days with a preceptor.
- Dress code: Any scrub color allowed.
Patient Population & Units
- Adult to geriatric patients.
- Common patient types include cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appendectomy, gynecology, psychiatric/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placement patients.
- Units covered include ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Telemetry.
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Medical-Surgical Telemetry nursing experience.
- Prior neuro experience preferred but not required.
- Current RN license valid in Colorado.
- Certifications required:
- BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) – AHA
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
- Ability to titrate drips, including Heparin.
- Must be able to float within the entire zone and arrange housing accordingly.
- Must be physically present in-state for the week of orientation.
Additional Information
- No home base facility; must be within 60 miles of all facilities in Zone 3.
- Facilities included in Zone 3:
- OrthoColorado Hospital (~10 miles from Denver City Center)
- Longmont United Hospital (~40 miles)
- St. Anthony Hospital (~10 miles)
- St. Anthony North Hospital (~12 miles)
- Travelers are expected to be flexible and assist in filling gaps in permanent scheduling.
- All time off requests must be submitted prior to starting the assignment.
- Charge nurses are designated on each unit and typically do not take patient assignments unless necessary, more common on night shifts.
- Respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, and BiPAP are used on these units.
- Nurse aides are available on the units.

This is a night shift RN float position requiring strong Medical-Surgical Telemetry experience, flexibility to work across multiple hospitals and units within a 60-mile radius of Denver, and the ability to manage a diverse adult patient population with various medical and surgical needs. Certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS are mandatory, and the role demands adaptability to changing assignments and schedules.
