Description
Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU for ER Holding Area
Location: Savannah, Georgia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Provide care for patients boarded in the Emergency Room (ER) holding area.
- Stepdown skillset required for the ER holding unit.
- Patient types commonly include cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, and critical care cases.
- RN responsible for reading telemetry strips (Spacelabs monitors) and saving them into patient charts.
- Respiratory Therapists (RT) available 24/7 to perform ABGs, breathing treatments, and manage ventilators; RNs troubleshoot but do not manage RT equipment directly.
- X-ray and CT imaging available in the ER with dedicated techs for transport.
- No phlebotomy services in the ER; RNs do not draw labs.
- Security is in-house 24/7 within the ER.
- Separate psych/seclusion rooms available (2 rooms).
Schedule & Work Hours
- Shift: Days
- Hours per day: 12
- Hours per week: 36
- Weekend requirement: Minimum 6 weekend days/nights in a 6-week schedule (approximately every other weekend).
- Holiday coverage: Based on department needs.
- No call or standby requirements.
- No floating required.
Required Qualifications
- Active Georgia RN license or Compact license.
- Current BLS and ACLS certifications (American Heart Association).
- Minimum of 2 years recent PCU nursing experience OR 1 year PCU experience combined with 1+ years in Telemetry, ER, or ICU.
- Must have successfully completed at least 1 previous travel nursing assignment.
- References should be from recent assignments.
Orientation & Dress Code
- Department-specific orientation during the first week of the contract.
- Dress code: Navy scrubs.
Additional Notes
- Strict 100-mile radius rule for travel to the facility; a copy of driver’s license is required with submission.
- Patient-to-nurse ratio typically 1:4-5, adjusted based on patient acuity.
This position is ideal for experienced PCU RNs with prior travel experience looking to work in a specialized ER holding area with a focus on stepdown care.
