Description
Intensive Care Unit Registered Nurse (ICU) - Night Shift
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Schedule
- Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
- No on-call required
- Patient ratio approximately 1:1 to 1:2
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (NIHSS)
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Experience with EPIC electronic health record system
Required Certifications
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - AHA only (Instructor/Provider and RQI acceptable)
- NIH Stroke Scale Certification (must meet facility-specific CE hour requirements)
- National Provider License (RN) verification required within 30 days of start
- NURSYS license verification required for RNs
- Other certifications as applicable per unit (e.g., Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam)
Required Skills and Competencies
- Proficient in IV starts
- Experience with telemetry (Tele) monitoring
- Competency with ventilators
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required prior to start
- Unit-specific competency exams required
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required within 1 year of start and updated annually (minimum passing score 76%)
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous travel nursing experience preferred
Background and Screening Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific codes apply)
- Monthly EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG monitoring
- Education accreditation confirmation from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA) required
- Transcript or diploma verification required
- Pending background check attestation allowed if fingerprint results are pending
- Drug screening: Negative 10-panel drug test within 3 months of start (no pending drug screens allowed)
- Two professional references required (at least one from a manager or formal leadership)
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease
- Tdap vaccine (adult dose after age 11/12) required; exemptions not allowed for those working with infants or pregnant patients
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive
- TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test renewal
- MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella): 2 vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer and no proof of vaccines
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; signed declination acceptable
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); decliners must wear a mask
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Dress code and hand hygiene policy acknowledgment required
- Confidential Fraud, Waste, Abuse, and Compliance Reporting Mechanism form required
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually
- Annual orientation safety manual acknowledgment
- Ohio BCI/FBI fingerprinting proof required for subcontractors
- Employment application and skills checklist required
Additional Notes
- Fingerprinting must be completed using specific Ohio codes and within 1 year of start; new fingerprinting required if break in service exceeds 90 days
- Candidates with fingerprint or background hits must provide additional documentation for adjudication
- Facility does not require annual background check updates but Aya Healthcare requires annual background checks for direct candidates
- Drug test must include amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids (THC), cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, and propoxyphene
This position is ideal for experienced ICU RNs with strong critical care skills, EPIC proficiency, and the ability to work night shifts in a high-acuity environment. Prior travel nursing experience is a plus but not mandatory.
