Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Overview

  • Specialty: Behavioral Health Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Patient Population: Adolescent Mood Disorders
  • Facility Type: Psychiatric
  • Total Staffed Beds: 337
  • Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each; 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
  • Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
  • Floating: Required to float within scope to meet facility needs, including to any age population as scheduling requires
  • Charge Nurse: May be required to work as charge RN during shifts (no additional pay)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland
  • Minimum 2 years of psychiatric nursing experience, including psychiatric experience within the last year
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
  • Experience in charge nurse roles

  • Candidates must complete various facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreements, policies acknowledgements, and informed consent forms prior to start
  • Candidates must complete annual TB questionnaire regardless of TB test results
  • Candidates must complete flu vaccination or approved exemption by November 20th of flu season or will be removed from the floor
  • Drug screen includes testing for amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, buprenorphine, marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy, methadone, opioids, oxycodone, phencyclidine
  • Fingerprint results may take 2-5 business days; candidates cannot start without fingerprint receipt unless prior extension approval is granted
  • Candidates expected to pay out-of-pocket for fingerprinting but can be reimbursed
  • Candidates must bring completed CJIS form to fingerprint appointment
  • Out-of-state candidates must complete fingerprinting in Maryland; mail-in option not allowed
  • Candidates must complete a negative TB or chest X-ray if previously positive, with annual TB questionnaire
  • Candidates must complete all required health documents and certifications prior to or during orientation

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Floating to other units and age populations as needed
  • No on-call requirement
  • Weekend shifts every other weekend
  • Night shift schedule with 12-hour shifts
  • May be required to serve as charge nurse without additional pay

This position is ideal for Behavioral Health RNs with at least 2 years of experience who are comfortable working night shifts in a psychiatric setting and are willing to float as needed. First-time travel nurses are welcome. Compliance with Maryland-specific fingerprinting and background check requirements is mandatory.
