Registered Nurse (RN) – Stepdown Unit

Location: Morgantown, West Virginia
Unit: Stepdown/MedSurg (29-bed unit, opening Q1 2026)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week

Unit and Patient Care Details

• Stepdown unit with nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:3; med-surg floor ratio 1:6
• Flex unit serving both floor and stepdown patients with primarily medical diagnoses
• Diverse patient population on a medicine unit
• Patients may require care involving CPAP, BiPAP, HiFlow, and ventilators (vent settings adjusted by ICU)
• RNs will titrate drips including heparin, insulin, anti-hypertensives, antiarrhythmics, phenobarbital, ketamine, PCA opioids, and TPN
• Remote telemetry surveillance center with central monitoring; RNs are not required to read their own telemetry strips
• Nurse aids (Clinical Associates) support the unit with a goal ratio of 1:10 (3 CAs per shift)
• Charge RNs and House Supervisors available 24/7; charge RNs may take patient assignments initially

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Must have EPIC electronic health record experience
• Ability to manage 3 stepdown patients or 6 med-surg patients
• Experience level: open to new and experienced nurses

Scheduling and Work Environment

• 12-hour night shifts
• Block scheduling is attempted but not guaranteed
• Weekend shifts required (agency RN positions posted as weekend positions)
• Expect to work about half of recognized holidays
• No call or standby requirements
• Floating to other floor or stepdown units is expected
• Dress code: royal blue and white scrubs
