Registered Nurse (RN) – IMCU

Location: Kankakee, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week

Unit Details

• Unit: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
• Beds: 22 private beds
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5 (days and nights)
• Common Diagnoses: Cardiac conditions, open heart post-op day 3, craniotomies, cardiac catheterizations (radial and femoral), Watchman device, Zephyr valve for COPD, pacemakers, tracheostomies, continuous CPAP, BiPAP, chest tubes, continuous bladder irrigation (CBI)
• Ventilators: None
• Respiratory Therapy Equipment: CPAP, BiPAP, High Flow Nasal Cannula (HFNC)
• Telemetry: RNs read telemetry; centralized telemetry tech support available
• Charge Nurse Role: Team Lead during day shift (does not take patients); charge nurse on nights/weekends/holidays (takes patients)
• Nurse Aides: Present at 1:10 ratio, assist with blood sugars, vitals, and ADLs
• Floating: Required to float to ICU (PCU level patients) or med-surg (full assignment)

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Illinois RN license (must have in hand)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• Valid Driver’s License (required for submission)

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 1 year of nursing experience required (ICU experience preferred but not mandatory)
• Positive attitude required
• First-time travelers are welcome
• Must have EPIC electronic medical record experience
• Preferred: prior travel experience (not mandatory)
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Cardizem, amiodarone, nitro (BP only), insulin, heparin, dopamine/dobutamine (renal dosing)

Scheduling & Work Environment

• Shift length: 12 hours (5:00 PM – 5:30 AM)
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• Block scheduling accommodated when possible
• Orientation: One 12-hour shift specific to the unit
• Scrub color: Caribbean
