Registered Nurse (ICU) - Kearney, Nebraska
Job Details
- Specialty: ICU Registered Nurse
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 1830-0630)
- Hours per Week: 36
- Unit: ICU (33 beds, average daily census 16)
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:2-3 for adults
- Common Patient Diagnoses: Trauma, cardiac conditions, overdose/substance abuse, sepsis, post-stent, pacemaker placement, stroke, vascular cases, renal failure, heart failure, respiratory distress
- Orientation: 1 shift of unit/department-specific orientation
- Return to Work (RTO): Required within 7 days or less from contract start; no additional RTO approved
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend (Saturday and Sunday)
- Holiday Requirement: Minimum of 2 holidays during contract period
- Floating: Typically to Progressive Care Unit (PCU), occasionally MedSurg with typical ratios (1:4 or 1:5)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling available for core staff and travelers; block scheduling generally not approved except possibly weekends only
- On-Call: If called back in, must arrive within 30 minutes
Clinical Responsibilities
- RNs are required to titrate drips including cardiac drips, insulin, and sedation
- Monitor and interpret telemetry strips (monitor brand: GE) with tele tech oversight
- Respiratory equipment troubleshooting from nasal cannula to ventilators
- Nurse aides and healthcare support techs assist based on census and volume
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nebraska
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience
- ICU experience within the last year
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
