Respiratory Therapist - West Virginia (Martinsburg)
Job Details
- Location: Martinsburg, West Virginia
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Nights
- Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
- Work Schedule:
- Every other weekend (Fri/Sat/Sun nights, Sat/Sun days)
- Every other holiday
- Call coverage from 7pm Friday to 7pm Sunday (rotating sign-up)
Patient Population & Unit Information
- Treats pediatric, adult, and neonatal patients
- Units include ICU, ER, MedSurg, NICU (Level II at one location)
- Patient census fluctuates (e.g., 12-25 patients depending on unit)
- Floating between units may be required; NICU experience preferred
Duties & Responsibilities
- Independently intubate pediatric and adult patients
- Assess patients and plan treatments based on physician orders and evaluations
- Administer respiratory treatments including:
- Oxygen therapy, humidity therapy, airway management, resuscitation
- Mechanical ventilation (Servo U, Hamilton G5, Hamilton T1 transport vent)
- Non-invasive ventilation (Bipap, Cpap, Phillips Respironics V60)
- High flow heated oxygen therapy (AirVo & MaxTech system)
- Postural drainage, chest physiotherapy, nebulizers, inhalers
- Arterial blood gases (ABGs)
- Perform non-ER EKGs (24/7 in some units; off-hours in others)
- Set up and maintain respiratory equipment
- No pulmonary function testing (PFT) duties required
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) verification required
- Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT) accepted only if license held prior to July 1, 2022
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) - AHA
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) - AHA
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) - required starting 12/15/2025
Experience Requirements
- Experience with NICU, pediatric, and adult patients required
- Prior travel experience is not explicitly required
Orientation & Training
- Approximately three 12-hour shifts for orientation
- ICU RTs may cover ER in some units; other RTs cover MedSurg or assigned floors
- Unit-specific assignments at some locations (ER, ICU, floors)
Work Environment & Team
- Lead RT or supervisor present during weekdays
- Team-oriented culture emphasizing integrity, teamwork, quality, and patient-centered care

Additional Requirements & Notes
- Must be fully vaccinated for COVID-19 (2 doses Moderna/Pfizer or 1 dose J&J) or have approved medical/religious exemption
- Driver’s license address must be outside a 50-mile radius from the facility
- Disclosure of any license issues required at time of submission
- Submission rules limit candidates per opening and require coordinated travel team submissions
