Registered Nurse (Float Pool)

Location: Weirton, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12 hours per shift, 36 hours per week
Schedule:

• Self-scheduling with 3 shifts per week
• Schedule made 4 weeks in advance
• Every other weekend required
• Possible holiday rotation participation
• No call or standby requirements

Unit Assignments & Patient Ratios

• Float to multiple units with varying acuity levels; may float to ED or CCU if within skillset
• Units and bed counts:

  • CCU: 10 beds (Ratio 1:2-3)
  • IMC: 30 beds (Ratio 1:4-6)
  • Medical-Surgical Level 7: 27 beds (Ratio 1:5-6)
  • Medical-Surgical Level 8: 48 beds (Ratio 1:5-8)
  • Skilled Care: 33 beds (Ratio 1:8-10)
  • Emergency Department: 15 beds (ratios TBD)

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Current RN license for West Virginia
• BLS certification required
• ACLS certification required if working in CCU or ED

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 5 years nursing experience
• Prefer 1 year ICU or 1 year ED experience
• Ideal candidate is an ICU/Stepdown traveler comfortable floating to lower acuity units
• Must be flexible, adaptable, and possess multi-functional expertise with strong problem-solving skills

Clinical Responsibilities

• Manage patient care including ADLs, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, and blood sugar monitoring
• Manage critical drips (e.g., Heparin) in ED and CCU; expected to titrate drips
• Read and interpret telemetry strips; print strips, perform measurements, and identify rhythms
• Troubleshoot respiratory equipment (ventilators, trachs, BiPAP, CPAP, Airvo) alongside RTs who administer treatments
• Collaborate with charge nurses who may take assignments as needed
• Work with nurse aides/patient care techs (ratios 1:7-15)

Orientation & Onboarding

• 1 day unit-specific orientation plus 1 day with a preceptor
• Orientation provided for only one unit before floating independently

Additional Information

• Must comply with a 50-mile radius rule for candidate submissions (driver’s license required)
• Assignments communicated via text message within 2 hours prior to shift start
• Dress code: Navy blue scrubs
