Description

Registered Nurse (ED/Medical Floor) – Big Sky, Montana

Position Type

  • Contract
  • Duration: 13 weeks
  • Schedule: Rotating days and nights, 3 shifts per week (12 hours each), including every other weekend
  • Hours per week: 36

Job Summary

  • Collaborate with healthcare team members to assess patient needs and implement appropriate interventions
  • Plan and provide patient and family education
  • Participate in stroke and trauma care protocols and education
  • Provide leadership and contribute to professional development within the nursing team
  • Maintain compliance with professional standards, guidelines, and ethical provisions

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Montana
  • Minimum 1 year of Emergency Department (ED) experience within the last year
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • American Heart Association Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
  • American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification
  • National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course (ENPC) certification
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
  • Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course certification (if not already held)

Essential Job Functions

  • Conduct comprehensive patient assessments and develop individualized care plans
  • Implement and evaluate nursing care strategies to promote health and safety
  • Maintain knowledge and competency aligned with current nursing practice
  • Participate in ongoing education including:
    • 4 hours annually of stroke education
    • 6 hours annually of trauma-related education (State Trauma Program requirement)
  • Work varied shifts and respond to on-call needs as required
  • Maintain professional demeanor, sound judgment, and strong interpersonal skills in a busy, stressful environment

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
  • Repeated standing, walking, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, reaching above shoulder level, pushing, and pulling
  • Continuous fine finger movements and close visual acuity
  • Ability to climb stairs or ladders occasionally
  • Cognitive skills to learn new tasks, maintain focus, and make timely decisions

Work Environment Exposures

  • Bloodborne pathogens and bodily fluids
  • Radiation in medical imaging areas
  • Chemicals, medications, disinfectants, and cleaning products
  • Infectious diseases
  • Emotionally challenging situations involving patients and families

Additional Information

  • Candidates must live at least 90 miles away from the facility to be considered
  • Facility may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances
  • Regular and sustained attendance required; may include working beyond 40 hours per week, weekends, and after-hours shifts
