Job Opportunity: SDU RN (Step Down Unit Nurse)

Location: Cleveland, Ohio
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7:00 PM – 7:30 AM (Night Shift)
Specialty: RN Step Down (Cardiac and Thoracic Surgery Unit)


Job Description

  • Provide nursing care on a cardiac and thoracic surgery step-down unit (SDU).
  • Care for patients requiring telemetry monitoring.

Required Qualifications

Licensure

  • Valid RN license in Ohio.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in Progressive Care Unit (PCU) within the last year.

Education

  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) / Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).

Certifications

  • BLS issued by American Heart Association.
  • ACLS.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS).

Health and Safety Requirements

  • MMR: Positive titers within last 15 years; booster protocol applies if low titer.
  • Varicella: Positive titers within last 15 years; booster protocol applies if low titer.
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of full series, partial series with declination, or positive titer within 15 years.
  • Tdap: Vaccination within last 10 years; no declinations accepted.
  • COVID-19 Vaccine: Preferred but not required; medical or religious exemptions accepted.
  • Influenza Vaccine: Optional; if declined during flu season (Oct-Mar), mask-wearing and specific attestation forms required.
  • Tuberculosis Testing: 2-step PPD or IGRA (QuantiFERON/TSPOT) with negative results within last 6 months; annual requirement. If positive, clear chest X-ray (valid 5 years) and current TB questionnaire required.
  • Fit Test: Completed within 1 year prior to start; annual update required. Approved respirator models specified.
  • Physical Exam: Pre-employment physical exam within 1 year confirming ability to work without restrictions.

Background and Compliance

  • Criminal Background Check: Within 6 months of start; includes social security trace, county searches (7 years), national criminal sweep, and sex offender registry.
  • OIG Exclusion Check: Within 6 months prior to start.
  • SAM/EPLS/GSA/OFAC Screening: Within 6 months prior to start.
  • Fingerprints: Ohio residents must provide BCI&I check and FBI fingerprint check depending on residency duration; attestation allowed if pending.
  • Drug Screen: 10-panel urine drug screen within 60 days prior to start; instant drug screens not accepted.
  • I-9 Verification: Proof of eligibility to work in the U.S. required.
  • Education Verification: Highest level of education verified through third party; international education requires equivalency.
  • Employment Verification: Verification of employment within last 5 years through third party.
  • Skills Checklist: Clinical skills checklist completed within 1 year prior to start; required once upon initial hire.
  • Competency Exam: Department-specific exam with minimum 80% score; completed within 1 year prior to start.
  • Core Competencies: Includes HIPAA, Joint Commission NPSG, OSHA topics; 80% passing score required; completed within 1 year prior to start.
  • Badge Photo: Required (headshot, shoulders up, plain background, JPEG format).
  • Driver’s License/State ID: Non-expired photo ID required.
