Registered Nurse (RN) – Acute Rehab Unit
Location: Peoria, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (7:00 PM – 7:30 AM)
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Details
- Unit Type: Acute Rehab
- Number of Beds: 29
- Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- Days: 5:1
- Nights: 6:1
- Patient Types: Neurology, Neurosurgery, Amputations, Multi-trauma, Cardiac, Complex medical (including tracheostomies, no ventilators)
- Rehab Services: Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Therapy
- Respiratory Equipment: CPAP/BiPAP (night use for sleep apnea), nasal cannula (including high flow, but no heated high flow)
- Nurse Aide Ratio: Approximately 1:9 or 1:10
- Floating: Required to float to LTAC and med-surg units; no floating to HAU unless trained
- Orientation:
- 2 days classroom
- 2-3 shifts with preceptor (day or night)
- Training on QRP and rehab-specific documentation
- Dress Code: Any color scrubs; no t-shirts unless approved
Job Requirements & Responsibilities
- Strong neurological nursing skills required
- No requirement for RNs to titrate drips except heparin
- Telemetry: Tele packs used, but RNs do not monitor strips
- Attendance at team conferences for acute inpatient rehab is mandatory
- Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
- Holiday Requirement: Every other holiday rotation
- Call or Standby: None
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Active Illinois RN license or proof that application process has been initiated
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification (AHA)
- Must comply with a drug-free workplace policy and produce a negative drug screen for all panels
Additional Notes
- Local placements accepted within a 50-mile radius
- Orientation hours (12 hours) are non-billable and guaranteed hours do not apply during orientation
- Call-off policy allows up to 12 hours off every 13 weeks without penalty
Summary
This is a 13-week night shift RN position on an acute rehab unit caring for complex neuro and medical patients. The role requires strong neuro skills, participation in team conferences, and flexibility to float to other units. Orientation includes classroom and precepted shifts with a focus on rehab documentation. The position requires an active Illinois RN license, BLS certification, and adherence to a drug-free policy.
