Registered Nurse (PCU) - Travel Assignment

Location: Hermitage, Tennessee
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Hours per Week: 36 (3 shifts of 12 hours each)

Unit and Work Environment

• Unit: Progressive Care Unit (PCU) with two subunits (34 beds and 25 beds)
• Patient Ratios:

  • Days: 1:4 to 1:5
  • Nights: 1:5 to 1:6
• Staffing: 2-3 techs available depending on unit census
• Equipment used: Bipaps, high flow oxygen, Vapotherm, Alaris pumps, cardiac/insulin/heparin drips, peritoneal dialysis, wound vacs
• Documentation system: Meditech
• Floating: May float between PCU units or to med-surg floors
• Scheduling: Every other weekend required; self-scheduling with 4-week schedules
• Patient care expectations: Hourly rounding on days, every 2 hours on nights, use of AIDET communication, maintaining communication boards

Required Qualifications

• Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least some experience within the last year
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification
• Experience with EKG rhythm interpretation
• Experience with cardiac drip management

Procedures Performed on Unit

• Peritoneal dialysis
• Thoracentesis
• Paracentesis
• Chest tube insertions
• Dobhoff/NG tube insertions
• Central line dressing changes
• Wound vac troubleshooting

• Most travelers extend their contracts after the first assignment on this unit
