Shift

Night shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM)

Patient Population & Unit Details

  • Mixed acuity unit with vascular surgery population focus
  • Experience with vascular surgery procedures such as AAA repair, carotid endarterectomy, fem-pop bypass, thrombectomy, carotids, pneumonectomy, post-thoracic surgery, EVAR, intra-aortic balloon pump, and TAVR required
  • Unit patient-to-nurse ratios vary from 1:2-3 (unit patients) to 1:4-5 (step-down acuity)
  • Ability to float within scope to step-down unit required
  • Must stay within 30 minutes of the facility in case of emergency

Requirements/Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Kentucky
  • Minimum 1 year of Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU) experience within the last year
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)

Required Certifications

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale) certification (current, obtained within 2 years of start date)
  • Competency in stroke assessment tools (e.g., BE-FAST) and bedside dysphagia screening
  • Familiarity with current stroke guidelines and performance measures for acute ischemic and hemorrhagic strokes

Licensure

  • Kentucky RN license or Compact license in hand (no pending licenses accepted)

Scheduling & Work Requirements

  • Weekend work required every other weekend
  • No on-call required
  • Open to block scheduling discussion but not guaranteed
  • Locals accepted within a 65-mile radius
  • Guaranteed hours per facility standard

Orientation

  • Orientations held every Monday
  • Hard documentation due date: Tuesday 5 PM PST prior to start date

Technology

  • Meditech experience preferred

Special Requirements

  • Surgical and cardiac experience required
  • Must comply with no flu exemptions policy (flu vaccination required)
  • Must remain within 30 minutes of the facility for emergency response

Background & Compliance Requirements

  • Valid Driver’s License, State ID, or Passport required
  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
  • EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required within 30 days of start and updated for renewals
  • Education verification required; official transcript or diploma may be accepted
  • Kentucky Vulnerable Adult Maltreatment Registry check required
  • Drug screening: Negative 13-panel drug screen within 12 months of start; onsite drug screen during orientation
  • Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
  • Fit mask test within 1 year (N95 3M 1860 Small/Regular or 1870+ models)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 2 months of start, with annual updates and specific positive TB protocols
  • Immunizations required: Measles (2 vaccines or positive titer), Mumps (2 vaccines or positive titer), Rubella (1 vaccine or positive titer), Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination), Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
  • Seasonal flu vaccination/documentation required annually (no exemptions or declinations allowed)
  • COVID-19 vaccination, exemption, or declination required for reporting purposes (does not prevent start)

Documentation & Forms

  • Complete employment application including 7-year work history
  • Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations
  • Performance evaluation within 1 year of start, updated annually
  • Skills checklist updated annually for applicable unit
  • Various facility-specific agreements and acknowledgments (e.g., confidentiality, computer use, safety manual) required prior to start
  • Badge photo with specific background and facial piercing guidelines required prior to start

Additional Notes

  • Candidate must score themselves 3 or 4 on relevant experience criteria before applying
  • No flu exemptions allowed for travelers
  • Facility will not allow candidates to start with pending background or education verification
  • Random drug screening may be required during contract
  • Candidate must be prepared to provide prescriptions if applicable during drug screening process
  • Facility performs its own background check in addition to agency requirements
