Registered Nurse (RN) - Emergency Room

Location: Fort Madison, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (8 weeks)
Shift: 6:00 PM – 6:30 AM
Assignment Dates: May 18, 2026 – July 12, 2026 (extension possible based on unit needs)

Job Summary

• Provide direct and indirect patient care in the Emergency Department.
• Assess, plan, intervene, and evaluate patient needs and priorities.
• Safely, rapidly, and accurately triage every patient entering the emergency care system.
• Coordinate care with other professional disciplines as needed.
• May be placed on call during low census periods; must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called in.
• Support unit preparation for Epic EMR go-live; Cerner and Epic EMR experience required.
• Responsible for self-study of telemetry strips upon acceptance; must pass a basic dysrhythmia test during the first week to continue working in the Emergency Department.

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Iowa
• Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department (ED) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
• Current certifications:

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • NIHSS (NIH Stroke Scale Certification)
  • CPI or MOAB certification
• Completion of GRH Skills Checklist
• Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
• Telemetry experience
• Experience with Cerner electronic medical records system
• Experience with Epic electronic medical records system

Additional Information

• The traveler will not be part of a regular call rotation but must be available for occasional call-in during low census.
• Must be able to self-study telemetry strips and pass a dysrhythmia test during the first week.
• 48 hours per week availability required.
• Experience with Cerner and Epic electronic medical records is mandatory.

Summary

This is an 8-week long-term Emergency Room RN assignment on nights, supporting an Epic EMR go-live. The role requires strong emergency nursing skills, multiple certifications, and the ability to quickly triage and manage patients in a fast-paced environment. Prior experience with Cerner and Epic EMRs is essential. The assignment includes a mandatory dysrhythmia competency test early in the contract.
