Description

Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Lakin, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night shift, 6:00 PM – 6:00 AM (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Must have at least 2 years of Labor & Delivery (L&D) nursing experience.
  • Will float to Medical-Surgical and Emergency Room units as needed.
  • Floating duties may include assisting with skilled swing bed patients, medical patients, or ER patients, either as a helper or with assigned patients.
  • Every other weekend required.
  • Block scheduling allowed.
  • Locals accepted; first-time travelers not accepted.
  • Start date: ASAP.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Kansas.
  • Minimum of 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
  • Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Certifications:
    • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
    • Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association.
    • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP).

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Proof of I-9 or attestation.
  • Government-issued photo ID (must be carried during hours of service).
  • Proof of E-Verify or attestation.
  • Background check: 7-year criminal history check within one year of start, updated annually, covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years. Includes Social Security trace, county, nationwide, sex offender, and facility-level checks. Instant search acceptable but hits must be approved.
  • Education verification: Transcript or diploma required; education verification acceptable if diploma/transcript unavailable.
  • State-specific exclusion list check required.
  • Physical exam: Initial and annual updates attesting ability to meet physical demands.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year of start, updated annually. For past positives, clear chest X-ray and annual TB questionnaire required.
  • Drug screening: 10-panel drug screen within one year of start, updated annually.
  • Proof of 2 clinical references (hospital evaluations accepted).
  • Complete employment application/resume.
  • Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually.
  • Performance and internal evaluations required if previously worked with the agency (timeframes vary).

Required Immunizations and Health Documentation

  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (Oct 1 – March 31). Exemptions (medical/religious) require facility-specific forms and may require mask-wearing if approved.
  • Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: Proof of immunity by titer or vaccination series (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer). Booster or signed declination accepted for low/equivocal titers.
  • Varicella: Proof of immunity by titer or vaccination series (2 vaccines or positive titer). Booster or signed declination accepted for low/equivocal titers.
  • Hepatitis B: Proof of immunity by titer, vaccination series, or declination.

Certifications (Additional Recommended/Required)

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required for L&D and ER units; preferred for Med/Surg.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) preferred for L&D and Med/Surg; required for ER.
  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) preferred for ER, Med/Surg, and L&D.

Additional Notes

  • Religious and medical exemptions for COVID-19 and flu vaccines must be completed on facility-specific forms and are subject to review.
  • Facility-specific dementia training will be completed on day one.
  • All time off requests (RTO) must be submitted at the time of application.

This position is ideal for experienced L&D nurses comfortable with floating to other units and working night shifts in a travel/contract role.
