Description
Surgical Tech - CVOR Tech
Location: Bismarck, North Dakota
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Overview
- Work in 2 CVOR suites handling 1-3 cases per day, including thoracic and vascular surgeries.
- Common cases: Open hearts (CABG, Valve, aneurysms), thoracotomies, VATS, Convergent, AAA, carotids, ION robotic cases, ECMO, Impella 5.5, Stryker towers.
- Must be willing to cross-train into general OR if CV volumes are low.
- Floating to the floor as a 1:1 sitter may be required to supplement hours during low case volume.
Schedule & Call Requirements
- Shift: Days, 6:45 AM – 3:15 PM, Monday to Friday (start at 6 AM for Open Heart Case Prep when notified).
- Overtime opportunities available.
- Weeknight call: 3-4 times per week, 3:15 PM – 6:45 AM.
- Weekend call: Every 2nd to 3rd weekend, Friday 3:15 PM to Monday 6:45 AM.
- Rotating holiday call required.
- Call response time: 15 minutes.
- Post-call reprieve shifts (8 hours) and sleep room available. Housing nearby should be accessible for call.
Required Qualifications
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) via NBSTSA or NCCT certification.
- BLS Certification.
- North Dakota UAP certification.
- Minimum 2 years of CVOR experience including open hearts, CABG, and valve cases.
- Must be able to first scrub.
- Willingness to cross-train into general OR and other specialties as needed.
Orientation & Training
- 4-5 days of unit-based orientation.
- 2 buddy call shifts with flexible orientation depending on recent heart surgery experience.
Additional Information
- Charge nurse coverage on all shifts (7 AM – 11 PM weekdays, 7 AM – 7 PM weekends).
- Manager available until 4 PM weekdays.
- Scrub color and dress code provided.
- Family atmosphere within the department.
- Must be willing to work within a 50-mile radius and not be currently employed part-time, full-time, or PRN with certain affiliated health systems.
- Return to office (RTO) required within 7 days of contract start; no additional RTO approvals.
Work Hours
- 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.
