Job Opportunity: Medical Surgical Neuro Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Decatur, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks

Position Details

• Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 - 06:30)
• Average Daily Census: 32 patients
• Work Schedule: Will work every other weekend; floating within scope as needed
• Block Scheduling: Possible with manager approval
• Local Candidates: Accepted with no radius restrictions
• Guaranteed Hours: Subject to client call-offs up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay

Required Qualifications

• Valid RN license in Illinois
• Med Surg nursing experience of at least 2 years, with experience within the last year
• BLS issued by American Heart Association
• NIHSS certification
• Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
• Experience with accessing ports, central line blood draws, peripheral line care/management, PICC line management, and starting IVs
• Experience with chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, non-invasive airway management, portable oxygen tanks, pre/post thoracic surgery care, and tracheostomy management
• Experience with continuous bladder irrigation
• Experience with Cerner electronic health record system

Clinical Skills & Experience Requirements

• Cardiac Monitoring & Emergency Response:

  • Telemetry (remote cardiac monitoring)
  • Use of Rapid Response Teams
• Gastrointestinal Care:

  • Colostomy care
  • Feeding tube care and management
• IV Therapy/Phlebotomy:

  • Accessing ports
  • Blood product administration
  • Central line blood draws
  • Peripheral line care/management
  • PICC line management
  • Starting IVs
• Medications: Experience with Heparin, Insulin, PCA (Patient Controlled Analgesia)
• Neurological/Psychiatric Care:

  • CVA (stroke)
  • Pre/Post neurosurgery care
  • Spinal cord injuries
  • Traumatic brain injury
• Surgical Care: Experience with surgical drains
• Respiratory Care:

  • Chest tubes (Emerson/Pleur-evac)
  • CPAP/BiPAP
  • Nasal cannula and oxygen face masks
  • Non-invasive airway management
  • Oral suctioning
  • Portable oxygen tank
  • Pre/Post thoracic surgery care
  • Tracheostomy management
• Professional Knowledge:

  • Isolation precautions
  • Wound care and Wound Vac
  • Continuous bladder irrigation
• Electronic Health Record: Cerner experience required
• Preferred Experience:

  • Teaching hospital experience
  • Level II trauma center experience

Background & Compliance Requirements

• Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually
• EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start
• Education verification (degree verification required)
• Illinois Department of Corrections, Most Wanted, and State Police registry searches within 30 days prior to start
• Fingerprinting in Illinois required for clinical candidates without an IL license (must be completed 3 business days prior to start)

Health & Safety Requirements

• Physical exam within 1 year of start, confirming good physical and mental health, ability to perform job functions without restrictions
• Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
• Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
• TB questionnaire updated annually
• Immunizations or proof of immunity (or signed declination) for:

  • Measles (Rubeola)
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Hepatitis B
  • Varicella
• Drug screening (9-panel) within 30 days of start
• Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
