Job Summary

The Surgical Technologist functions as the scrub person in the operating room, working under the supervision of the surgeon and registered nurse to ensure a safe environment and proper functioning of equipment. The role supports invasive therapeutic and diagnostic procedures by applying expertise in surgical techniques, anatomy, and instrumentation.

Required Qualifications

• Certified Surgical Technologist with at least 1 year of experience, including experience within the last year
• High School Diploma or Equivalent, or completion of an equivalent military surgical technologist program
• American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) certification

Essential Job Functions

• Prepare and complete case carts according to preference cards
• Interpret preference cards to procure instruments and supplies
• Communicate and coordinate with operating room staff and sterile processing department for instrumentation needs
• Review daily surgical schedules to identify potential delays or scheduling issues
• Manage core communications and delegate duties within the department
• Serve as a resource for sterile processing and surgical services regarding supplies and instrumentation
• Coordinate with materials management on supply utilization and deployment

Schedule & Work Requirements

• 40 hours per week, variable shifts including weekends and after-hours
• Regular and sustained attendance required
• On-call work may be necessary
• Facility may cancel up to three shifts during the 13-week contract due to low census or unforeseen circumstances
• Candidates must live at least 90 miles away from the facility to be considered

Physical Requirements

• Frequent lifting up to 50 pounds
• Prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, twisting, stooping, kneeling, and reaching above shoulder level
• Use of fine finger movements continuously (e.g., picking, pinching, typing)
• Good vision and cognitive skills required for data analysis, decision making, and task completion
• Ability to work in a busy, stressful environment with strong emotional intelligence and teamwork skills

Exposure Risks

• Continuous exposure to bloodborne pathogens, bodily fluids, and tissues
• Potential exposure to radiation in imaging areas
• Handling of chemicals, disinfectants, and medications
• Contact with infectious diseases and emotionally challenging patient situations
