Description
Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology
Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights (12-hour shifts, 7p-7a)
Hours per Week: 36
Unit: 6 East – PCU, Oncology, and MedSurg
Number of Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adults
Nurse-to-Patient Ratios:
- PCU: 1:4
- Med/Surg: 1:5 (days), 1:5-6 (nights)
Job Description
- Care for patients primarily with oncology and trauma diagnoses on a mixed PCU/Med Surg unit.
- Float within the same level of care to med/surg and PCU units as needed.
- Common drips/medications include chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, and protonix.
- RNs are required to titrate drips such as insulin (occasionally) and cardizem.
- Use specialty equipment including ventilators, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan-Ganz, EV-1000), ICP monitoring (training provided).
- Utilize EPIC EMR and Alaris IV pumps.
- Lift equipment available (Lyko lifts in even rooms and others).
- Nursing assistant support and additional unit support staff (PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician) available.
- Emphasis on hourly rounding and patient experience.
Required Qualifications
- Current RN license appropriate for Nebraska.
- Minimum 1 year of PCU and/or oncology nursing experience required.
- ACLS, BLS (AHA), and NIHSS certifications required.
- Chemotherapy certification (Chemo Cert) required.
- ONS/ONCC certification preferred.
- Pass a skills exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90%.
- Valid driver’s license required at submission to verify distance compliance (must live outside a 50-mile radius of the facility).
- Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas.
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation: 2 days.
- Weekend requirement: Every other weekend.
- Self-scheduling available.
- Scrubs: Navy blue.
Additional Information
- First-time travel nurses are welcome; prior travel experience is not required.
- Charge nurse experience requires a minimum of 1 year.
- Candidates cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any affiliated facilities within the specified radius.
- Required documentation at submission includes DOB, SSN, permanent address, and recent EPIC experience (within 6 months preferred but not mandatory).
- Return to work (RTO) must be within 7 days or less from contract start; no additional RTO extensions allowed.
