Registered Nurse (RN) – MedSurg/Oncology 6S Unit

Location: Bridgeport, West Virginia
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Shift Hours: 12-hour shifts (7 PM – 7 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours

Unit Overview

• 36-bed unit specializing in Post-Op, Oncology, and Telemetry patients
• Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:5-6
• Unit uses Phillips telemetry monitors; RNs must read and interpret cardiac strips
• Central monitor tech available hospital-wide
• Charge nurse available 24/7; night charge nurse takes patient assignments
• 3 CNAs on nights to assist with patient care
• Respiratory equipment includes CPAP and BiPAP (managed by RTs)
• No cardiac drips titrated; only Heparin drip is titrated by RNs
• Royal blue scrubs required

Patient Population & Care

• General MedSurg patients and some post-operative cases (lap cholecystectomy, lap appendectomy)
• Oncology patients with complications such as neutropenic precautions, pneumonia, infections
• Frequent care of patients with chest tubes, including PleurX chest tubes for malignant effusions
• Occasional psychiatric patients requiring 1:1 sitter

Required Qualifications

• Current RN license valid in West Virginia
• BLS (AHA) certification required
• Oncology Nursing Society (ONS) or ONCC Chemotherapy/Biotherapy certification is a plus
• Experience with chemotherapy administration and managing oncology complications preferred
• Ability to read and interpret telemetry strips required
• Must be able to titrate Heparin drips
• No false nails allowed

Experience Requirements

• Minimum 5 years of MedSurg/Oncology nursing experience required
• Prior travel experience is not explicitly required

Scheduling & Work Requirements

• Every-other-weekend work required (Saturday and Sunday)
• Holiday shifts included in rotation with permanent staff
• Floating may be required to other MedSurg or Telemetry units
• Night charge nurse takes patient assignments; day charge nurse does not

• 50-mile radius rule applies for candidate submissions (driver’s license required)
