Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Critical Care/ICU-CCU
Location: West Burlington, Iowa
Employment Type: Long-Term Assignment (LTA)
Contract Length: 8 weeks (May 18, 2026 – July 12, 2026)
Shift: 07:00 AM – 07:30 PM (Days)
Job Summary
- Provide nursing care to adult patients in critical care units including ICU and CCU.
- Patient populations include adult cardiac/telemetry, stroke, vascular intervention, and hemodynamic monitoring.
- Deliver care using the nursing process: assessment, planning, intervention, implementation, and evaluation.
- Collaborate effectively with patients, families, and healthcare team members.
- Support unit preparation for Epic EMR go-live; Cerner and Epic EMR experience required.
- Self-study of telemetry strips required upon acceptance; must pass a Basic Dysrhythmia test during the first week to work in ICU-CCU.
- May occasionally be placed on call during low census periods; must be able to respond and arrive onsite within one hour if called in.
- Estimated workweek is 36 hours with possible overtime.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Iowa
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) experience, including experience within the last year
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by American Heart Association or American Red Cross
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Experience with Cerner electronic medical records
- Experience with Epic electronic medical records
Health and Compliance Requirements
- COVID-19 Vaccine (declination accepted)
- MMR: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal
- Hepatitis B: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; booster or declination accepted if low/equivocal
- Tdap: Valid within 10 years; declination accepted
- Influenza Vaccine (optional): Due annually by December 1 (Sept 1 – March 31 season)
- TB Test: Negative test within past year (TSPOT or QuantiFERON IGG); if history of positive test, must provide chest x-ray and questionnaire
- Fit Test: Completed prior to start with approved respirators (e.g., Moldex 1510, 3M 1860s)
- Health Statement: Physician statement within last 12 months
- Color Vision Test
Background and Documentation
- Professional license verification (primary source within 30 days of start)
- Background check within 30 days including SS trace and county search for last 7 years
- Adult and Child Abuse clearance (state requirement)
- Education verification through third party or combined with diploma/transcripts
- Drug screen within 30 days (9-panel, excludes THC)
- Employment eligibility verification (I-9 attestation)
- Resume and 2 professional references (1 must be supervisor)
- Various internal attestations and acknowledgments related to policies, skills checklist, and Epic registration
Additional Notes
- This position has a firm start and end date with potential for extension based on unit needs.
- Traveler is responsible for completing required self-study and testing related to telemetry and dysrhythmia.
- While not part of a regular call rotation, occasional on-call availability is required.
This opportunity is ideal for experienced critical care RNs comfortable with telemetry, cardiac care, and EMR systems, seeking a defined short-term assignment with potential extension.
