Description
Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery / OB & Med-Surg
Location: Holdrege, Nebraska
Employment Type: Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 5:45 PM – 6:00 AM
- 2 out of 3 weekends required
- Block scheduling available
- 3 shift call off with no charge based on patient census
Hours per Week: 36
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse provides nursing care for patients of all ages, primarily in Labor and Delivery as well as Obstetrics and Medical-Surgical units. The role involves assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care under physician supervision, ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and policies.
Essential Functions
- Assess physical, psychological, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients.
- Document symptoms, reactions, and changes in patient condition.
- Develop, implement, and revise formal plans of care using the nursing process.
- Administer medications following the "Five Rights of Medication Administration."
- Educate patients and families with age-appropriate information.
- Maintain a safe and comfortable environment for patients, families, and visitors.
- Prioritize daily assignments to optimize patient care.
- Demonstrate annual competency in assigned work areas.
- Maintain patient and employee confidentiality.
- Comply with professional code of conduct.
Charge Nurse Responsibilities (if applicable):
- Assign staff based on patient needs and staff skill levels.
- Coach staff in problem-solving and decision-making skills.
- Lead or participate in performance improvement initiatives.
- Recognize and respond immediately to life-threatening patient situations.
- Foster cooperative relationships with physicians and staff.
Physical Demands
- Frequent use of hands and arms; talking and hearing required.
- Frequent sitting, standing, and walking.
- Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, climbing, balancing.
- Frequent lifting/moving up to 40 pounds; occasional lifting/moving over 100 pounds.
- Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
Work Environment
- Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes, airborne particles, and electrical shock risk.
- Occasional exposure to explosive, toxic, or caustic chemicals.
- Moderate noise level.
- Classified as Risk Level I for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Nebraska.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) from an accredited program.
- Minimum of 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience within the last year.
- Current certifications in:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- Experience in Charge Nurse roles.
