Job Opportunity: IMC Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Baltimore, Maryland
Contract Length: 12 weeks
Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM – 7:30 PM)
Patient Population: Adults to Geriatrics
Unit: Transplant Intermediate Care (IMC)
Job Description
- Provide post-operative care for vascular, kidney, and liver transplant patients.
- Perform hemodynamic and neurovascular assessments.
- Monitor surgical sites for bleeding or infection and evaluate graft function.
- Monitor labs, urine output, fluids, and electrolytes.
- Administer pain control, immunosuppressants, anticoagulation, and IV therapies.
- Identify complications such as thrombosis, graft dysfunction, and rejection.
- Unit has 27 rooms.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Maryland.
- Minimum 2 years of Progressive Care Unit (PCU) experience, with at least 1 year within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Transplant experience.
Work Requirements
- Holidays: Required as scheduled.
- Weekends: Every third weekend required.
- Floating: Required within specialty and to other units/facilities within scope.
- On-call: Not required.
Uniform
- Navy blue scrubs (pink for trauma assignments).
- Pediatric department: Navy blue scrub pants with child-friendly tops in navy blue.
- Undershirts: White if short sleeve, navy (or pink if trauma) if long sleeve.
- Business casual allowed in certain departments (no jeans, no open-toe shoes, no sleeveless tops, no shorts).
Health and Compliance Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start.
- Negative 9 or 10 panel drug screen (no instant tests) within 30 days prior to start.
- Fit mask test within 1 year of start (specific mask types accepted).
- Immunizations/vaccinations:
- TDAP (if working with children or specific units).
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines/boosters required.
- Hepatitis B: Positive titer or declination accepted (series not accepted).
- Flu vaccine or medical/religious exemption required during flu season.
- Tuberculosis screening: Negative QGOLD or TSPOT within 1 year, or 2-step PPD testing as per protocol. Annual updates required.
- COVID vaccine not required for this location but documentation collected for tracking.
Background and Credentialing
- 7-year criminal background check within 30 days of start; must be updated annually.
- Education verification for highest level completed.
- Maryland State Exclusions List check within 30 days of start.
- Various federal and state background checks (EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG).
- Primary source verification of RN license required.
- NURSYS verification required for RN license.
- Competency exams (medication, age-specific, dysrhythmia/EKG) required with minimum 80% score.
- Color blind testing required once.
- Facility-specific documents including confidentiality agreement, dress code review, badge photo, and job description acknowledgment required prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Epic Portfolio Training Test Out Form may be applicable depending on prior Epic experience.
- Candidate must complete security ID application within 72 hours of signing contract.
- Latex allergy questionnaire must be completed by all candidates.
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training may be required as applicable.
This position is ideal for experienced transplant IMC RNs seeking a travel contract opportunity with a focus on complex post-operative transplant care in a specialized intermediate care setting.
