ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Belleville, Illinois
Position Details
- Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
- Location: Belleville, Illinois

- Shift: Day shift, 6:45 AM – 7:15 PM (3 shifts of 12 hours per week, totaling 36 hours)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Patient Ratio: 1:2
- Facility Type: Acute Care Hospital, Magnet designated

Job Description
- Work primarily in the ICU with potential to float to IMCU within scope.
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required.
- Assist with line insertion, intubation, hypothermia protocols, CRRT/CVVHD, and IABP.
- Must be a strong team player with previous ICU experience.
- Local candidates within 75 miles are not accepted.
- No block scheduling or on-call required.
- Return-to-Office restrictions: 7 days within the 13-week contract.
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois.
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
Scheduling & Work Requirements
- Day shift only, 12-hour shifts.
- Every other weekend and every other holiday required.
- No on-call duties.
- Floating to IMCU and ICU as needed.
Compliance & Background Checks
- Criminal background check within 6 months required (7-year search including statewide, nationwide, and international if applicable).
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required quarterly.
- Fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units in Illinois.
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required prior to start.
- State-specific exclusion and sanction lists must be checked and updated quarterly.
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start date required.
- Fit mask testing (N95 respirators) required annually; facial hair must allow proper fit.
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment.
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest x-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: positive titer, vaccination, or medical exemption required; no exemptions allowed for NICU or newborn nursery staff.
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (Sept 30 – April 1).
Required Documentation & Compliance Training
- Employment application and professional references (2 professional references preferred within last year).
- Unit-specific skills checklist and competency exams (including oncology if applicable).
- Annual competency exams and medication/pharmacology test.
- Facility-specific documents including:
- HIPAA Acknowledgement
- Latex Allergy Questionnaire
- Confidentiality Form
- Regulatory Compliance Education (annual quiz with 80% passing score)
- Hand Hygiene Policy
- Fingernail Policy
- Dress Code Policy
- Orientation modules (approx. 16 hours, required for all RNs)
- Badge photo (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months).
Additional Notes
- No first-time travel nurses accepted for this position.
- Candidates must meet all compliance and credentialing requirements prior to start.
- Floating within ICU and IMCU units is expected to meet facility needs.
- No local candidates accepted within 75 miles radius.
This position offers an opportunity to work in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital ICU with a supportive team environment and advanced technology (EPIC charting). The role requires experienced ICU nurses with strong critical care skills and certifications, ready to commit to a 13-week travel contract with a structured day shift schedule.
