Description
ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Position
Location: Belleville, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 18:45 - 07:15)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Details
- Unit: Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Shift Schedule: Night shift, every other weekend and every other holiday required
- Patient Ratio: 1 nurse to 2 patients
- Floating: May float within scope to Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU) and ICU
- Start Date: Biweekly starts, 3-4 weeks from compliance clearance
- Local Radius Rule: Candidates must be outside a 75-mile radius (locals not accepted)
- First-time travelers: Not accepted (prior travel experience required)
- Weekend Requirement: Yes, every other weekend required
- On-call: Not required
- Block schedule: Not accommodated
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years ICU nursing experience (higher years of experience requirement applied)
- Must assist with line insertion, intubation, hypothermia protocols, CRRT/CVVHD, and IABP
- Must be a great team player
- Experience with EPIC charting system
Required Certifications & Licenses
- Registered Nurse license valid in Illinois (no pending licenses accepted)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) - AHA only
- BLS (Basic Life Support) - AHA only
- NIH Stroke Certification (annual renewal required)
- Other certifications may be required depending on unit (verify with unit description)
Work Hours
- 36 hours per week for 3 shifts of 12 hours each
Compliance & Background Requirements
- Government-issued ID required
- Criminal background check within 6 months, including statewide and nationwide searches
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required quarterly
- Illinois fingerprinting required for assignments at or floating to long-term care or rehab units
- Education verification of highest nursing degree required before start
- Drug testing within 1 year of start, must include specific panels and be valid throughout assignment
- Physical exam within 1 year of start
- Fit mask testing required and must be renewed annually
- Immunizations and titers required:
- Tdap vaccine or declination (expires every 10 years)
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (2 negative PPDs or T-Spot/Q-Gold within 1 year)
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Varicella immunity or vaccination/declination (some units have no exemption)
- Seasonal flu vaccination or approved exemption required during flu season (09/30 - 04/01)
Additional Facility-Specific Requirements
- Must complete and sign HIPAA Acknowledgement, Latex Allergy Questionnaire, Confidentiality Form, Hand Hygiene Policy, Fingernail Policy, Dress Code Policy prior to start
- Regulatory Compliance Education quiz must be completed annually with a passing score of 80% or higher
- Badge photo required (head and shoulders, white background, no obstructions, taken within 6 months of start)
- Unit-specific competency exams and skills checklists required annually
- Two professional references required (supervisors within last year preferred)
- Employment application must be submitted and uploaded for facility review
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, with ICU experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
- Experience with Epic electronic health record system
Notes
- No pending licenses accepted; Illinois permanent license required for assignment extension
- Return travelers to the same role/unit/facility may reuse previous background and license approvals if no changes occurred
- Candidates must be able to float within ICU and IMCU as needed
- No per diem or block scheduling options available for this position
This position is ideal for experienced ICU Registered Nurses with prior travel contract experience seeking a night shift role in a Magnet-designated acute care hospital setting.
