Job Opportunity: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (RN)

Location: Springfield, Illinois
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Position Details

  • Unit: Emergency Department (ED) - Combined Adult and Pediatric care
  • Shift: Evening shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (15:00 - 03:30)
  • Average Daily Census: 175 patients
  • ED Beds: 56 beds
  • Weekend Requirement: Work every other weekend
  • On-call: Not required
  • Floating: No floating outside scope of practice
  • Schedule Flexibility: Block schedule requests can be discussed with manager
  • Locals Accepted: Yes, no radius restrictions

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Illinois
  • Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience, including experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • Current certifications issued by the American Heart Association:
    • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
    • BLS (Basic Life Support)
    • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course) certification
  • Experience working with both adult and pediatric patients
  • Clinical skills including:
    • Continuous IV sedation and procedural sedation administration
    • Management of neurological cases such as stroke (CVA), spinal cord injury, traumatic brain injury, and head injury
    • Care for skin disorders
    • Management of psychiatric cases including acute psychosis and drug overdose
    • Respiratory care including chest tube insertion/management and intubation
  • Experience with Cerner electronic medical record system

Health & Compliance Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, including labs within 7 days of contract signing
  • Fit mask test required (specific mask types accepted)
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year
  • Annual TB questionnaire
  • Immunizations or documented immunity/declination for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
  • 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required annually by November 30
  • Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, including national and state-specific registries
  • Fingerprinting required in Illinois for clinical candidates without an IL license, must be completed 3 business days prior to start

Additional Requirements

  • Two professional references required
  • Competency exam required for all clinical candidates
  • Badge photo required within one week of contract signing
  • Review and sign code of conduct within 7 days of contract signing
  • Parking permit required (no cost)

  • Scrub color: Any solid color allowed
  • Charting system: Cerner

Notes

  • First-time travel nurses accepted
  • Return-to-Office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days
  • Client may cancel up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay for those hours; on-call shifts count as called-off shifts
