Registered Nurse (Med Tele)

Location: Kankakee, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours: 12-hour shifts, approximately 36 hours per week
Schedule:

• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
• No call or standby requirement
• Floating to medical floors/step down units to care for telemetry-level patients

Unit Details

• Department: Medical Telemetry
• Beds: 31
• Nurse-to-Patient Ratio: 1:5-6
• Nurse Aide Ratio: 1:10-12
• Telemetry Monitoring: RNs read telemetry; centralized telemetry tech support available
• Common Diagnoses: CHF, strokes, chest pain, diabetes mellitus, pneumonia, COPD, detox, underlying cardiac conditions, cath lab recoveries
• Experience with radial band and femoral catheter recoveries preferred
• RN drip titration: Not required
• Common drips used (set rate): Lasix, heparin, bumex, protonix, octreotide
• Respiratory Therapy/Equipment: Intermittent CPAP/BiPAP only
• Charge Nurse/House Supervisor: Team Lead during day (does not take patients), Charge nurse on nights/weekends/holidays (does take patients)
• Scrub Color: Caribbean colored scrubs
• Orientation: One 12-hour shift

Required Qualifications

• Illinois RN license in hand
• BLS Certification
• EPIC electronic medical record experience (mandatory)
• Valid driver’s license required for submission
• Preferred: Prior travel nursing experience (not mandatory)

Additional Information

• Local candidates must live within 20 miles of the facility to be considered for local placement
• Clinical prescreen required; if recommended, hiring manager will respond within 24 hours without a second phone interview

This position is ideal for an experienced Med Tele RN with strong EPIC skills and a valid Illinois license, comfortable working 12-hour day shifts in a telemetry unit with a variety of cardiac and medical patients.
