Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical Telemetry Float Pool
Location: Centennial, Colorado (Zone 3 – 60 mile radius around Denver City Center)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Job Overview
- Float nurse position covering multiple hospitals within a 60-mile radius of Denver City Center.
- Float assignments include various units: Medical-Surgical Telemetry, Cardiac, Neuro, Oncology, Rehab, Renal, Bariatrics, Orthopedics, Trauma, and Emergency Department Observation.
- Nurses must be flexible to float across different acuity levels including ICU (low acuity holds), PCU/Stepdown, and MS-Tele units.
- Schedules are released 4–6 weeks in advance and follow one of two formats:
- Scheduled at a single facility for the week with possible floating within that facility.
- Just-In-Time (JIT) assignments where the facility is assigned 1–2 hours before shift start.
- Weekend requirement: 6–9 weekend shifts within a 6-week schedule.
- Holiday rotation participation may be required.
- Call or standby is rare and only for low census situations.
- Orientation includes 1–2 days with a preceptor.
- No designated home base facility; housing must allow floating within the entire zone.
Patient Population & Unit Details
- Adult to geriatric patients with diagnoses including cardiac, neurological, orthopedic, oncology, renal, urology post-surgical, general surgery post-appendectomy, gynecology, psychiatric/detox, ENT, general medicine, and stable long-term placements.
- Nurse-to-patient ratios typically 1:5–6 depending on acuity.
- Charge nurse present on each unit; usually does not take patient assignments except when necessary.
- Nurse aides are available on the units.
- Respiratory therapy equipment such as vents, CPAP, and BiPAP are used.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Colorado
- Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience of at least 2 years, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- NIHSS certification
Additional Information
- Must be able to attend orientation week in-state.
- All time-off requests must be submitted before starting the assignment.
- Scrub color/dress code: Any color allowed.
- Must be willing and able to float throughout the entire zone covering multiple hospitals.
- Schedule is created by leadership for 6 weeks at a time; travelers expected to fill gaps in permanent scheduling.
Summary
This is a 13-week night shift RN position requiring strong Medical-Surgical Telemetry experience with flexibility to float across multiple hospitals and units within a 60-mile radius of Denver.
