Registered Nurse (Labor & Delivery) - Travel Contract
Location: Federal Way, Washington
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Job Overview
Seeking an experienced Labor & Delivery RN for a travel assignment in a hospital setting. The unit includes Labor & Delivery, Postpartum, and Mother-Baby care with a total of 20 beds (8 L&D, 10 Postpartum, 2 triage) and 2 OR suites. The unit handles approximately 1,500 births per year and follows AWHONN staffing guidelines.
Unit Details
- Patient acuity: Medium to high risk
- Common patient types: Labor & Delivery and Nursery Level 2
- Nurse responsibilities include titrating drips and reading fetal heart monitor strips
- Charge Nurse and House Supervisor roles are present
- OB/Neonatologist available in-house 24/7
- Respiratory therapy equipment (vents, CPAP, BiPAP) is run by RTs, not initiated by RNs
- No telemetry or monitor techs on unit
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Centricity
- Scrub color/dress code: Blue (provided)
- Orientation provided on unit, including days and weekends as needed
- Weekend and holiday work required
- No call or standby requirement
- No floating to other units required
- Nurse aides and surgical techs available on unit
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of Labor & Delivery nursing experience
- Active Washington State RN license
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
Additional Information
- Orientation/education hours expected to be 25+ during the first 2 weeks but not guaranteed
- The unit follows AWHONN guidelines for nurse-to-patient ratios
- The position requires working 12-hour day shifts with some weekend and holiday coverage
