Surgical Tech – California (Redwood City)

Job Details

• Specialty: OR Tech
• Location: Redwood City, CA
• Contract Length: 13 weeks (approximately 3 months)
• Shift: Day shifts, variable start times between 6 AM and 9 AM
• Hours: 10 hours per day, 40 hours per week
• Call: 1 shift per week, every 4th weekend
• Weekend Requirement: Not required (except call coverage every 4th weekend)
• Holidays: Covered by call
• Floating: Not required

Work Environment

• Unit: Operating Room (OR)
• Beds: 4 beds in main OR, 8 beds in pavilion
• Cases: 15-25 cases per day, approximately 400 cases per month
• Case Mix:

  • Main OR: Mostly orthopedic cases (total hips, knees, joints)
  • Pavilion: Neuro and ortho spine, cardiovascular (CV) cases (specific team), general surgery, gynecology, urology, ENT
• Inpatient Cases: 20-25%
• CV and robotic cases only if experienced
• Anesthesia provided by anesthesiologists (no CRNAs)
• Critical patients transferred directly to ICU from OR
• Charge Nurse present but does not take patients/cases
• Scrub techs are used; nurses circulate (scrubbing is a plus but not required)
• Scrub color provided by hospital
• EMR system: Cerner Surginet (experience preferred)

Orientation

• 1 week of paperwork orientation
• 1 week partnered with a preceptor

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of OR experience
• BLS Certification
• COVID-19 vaccination required

Additional Notes

• Very particular processes in the OR suites
• Preferred contract length: 26 weeks (though current opening is 13 weeks)
