Job Opportunity: Oncology Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Columbus, Ohio
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Day shift, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM (5 days/week, 40 hours/week)
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Description
- Provide nursing care in an oncology clinic setting.
- Patient population includes adults and geriatrics.
- Manage symptom care for oncology patients currently receiving treatment.
- Float assignments may be required.
- Work environment includes 11 patient rooms.
- Documentation system: EPIC (required).
- No on-call responsibilities.
- First-time travel nurses are welcome.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Ohio.
- Minimum 2 years of oncology nursing experience, with oncology experience within the last year.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Experience with EPIC documentation system.
Background and Credentialing Requirements
- 7-year criminal background check within 90 days of start, including FBI and BCI fingerprinting (Ohio-specific code 3701.881).
- Monthly monitoring through EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG databases.
- Education verification from an accredited nursing program (CCNE, ACEN, or NLN CNEA).
- State license verification within 30 days of start.
- NURSYS verification required for RN license.
- Transcript or diploma verification may be required.
- Pending background check attestation required if fingerprint results are pending at start.
Health and Immunization Requirements
- Physical exam within 1 year of start confirming good health and free of contagious disease.
- Negative TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSPOT) within 1 year or chest x-ray if positive. TB questionnaire required annually in lieu of TB test.
- Immunizations/vaccinations required:
- Tdap (adult dose after age 11/12).
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella: 2 MMR vaccines or positive titer; boosters required if low titer.
- Varicella: 2 vaccines or positive titer; medical exemptions require documentation.
- Hepatitis B: Titer or 3-vaccine series; declination acceptable.
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination during flu season (10/1 - 3/31); mask required if declining.
- COVID-19 vaccination not required but strongly recommended; proof of primary vaccination accepted.
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 3 months of start (includes amphetamines, barbiturates, benzodiazepines, cannabinoids, cocaine, methadone, methaqualone, opiates, PCP, propoxyphene). New travelers cannot start with drug screen pending.
Additional Requirements
- Two professional references required; at least one must be from a manager or formal leadership role.
- Employment application required, including education details for nursing candidates.
- Skills checklist required.
- Annual acknowledgment of orientation safety manual, dress code, hand hygiene, ethics, and compliance policies.
- Fraud, Waste, and Abuse training certificate required prior to start and updated annually.
- Fingerprint proof required for subcontractors, with specific documentation depending on fingerprinting location.
Notes
- ACLS certification may be required depending on unit assignment (effective 11/13/25 for certain units).
- Other certifications such as PALS, NRP, EFM, NIH Stroke Certification may be required based on unit assignment.
- Candidates can renew BLS and ACLS certifications at the facility.
- Prior travel experience is not required for this position.
This position offers a structured day shift with no call and the opportunity to work in a specialized oncology clinic environment using EPIC documentation. It is suitable for RNs with oncology experience seeking a travel contract in Ohio.
