Job Opportunity: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN Core 6)

Location: Indianapolis, Indiana
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Summary

  • Specialty: Registered Nurse (Operating Room)
  • Shift: Day shift, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 AM - 7:30 PM)
  • Average daily census: 70-80 patients
  • Unit includes: General, Plastic, Gynecology, ENT, Trauma, Neuro, Ortho, GU, Colorectal Robotics
  • Float within scope to meet facility needs, excluding Cardiovascular & Transplant areas
  • Call required: 6 call shifts in a 6-week period (can vary)
  • Holidays required: Must work 2 out of 3 major holidays
  • No block scheduling
  • First-time travelers accepted
  • Locals accepted (with a pay adjustment for Indiana residents)

Required Qualifications

  • Valid RN license in Indiana
  • Minimum 3 years of Operating Room (OR) experience, including OR experience within the last year
  • Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
  • BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
  • Experience working with Level 1 Trauma patients

Certifications (may be required depending on unit)

  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
  • TNCC (Trauma Nursing Core Course)
  • Chemotherapy certification (if applicable)
  • Electronic Fetal Monitoring (EFM)
  • NIH Stroke Certification
  • Other unit-specific certifications as required

Required Documentation & Compliance

  • Valid Driver’s License or Passport (clear copy)
  • Background checks including 7-year work/living history, SSN trace, county/state/national checks, and education verification
  • Education verification and official transcript or diploma (may be pending at start)
  • Physical exam completed within 12 months of start date
  • Fit mask test within 12 months (3M or Honeywell N95 respirators approved)
  • Negative 10-panel drug screen within 12 months
  • Immunizations and titers:
    • Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Rubella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccines required; no declinations accepted
    • Hepatitis B: Series, titer, or signed declination required
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap: Strongly recommended (not required)
  • TB test (PPD, QuantiFERON, or T-SPOT) within 1 year; chest x-ray if positive history
  • Seasonal flu vaccination or approved medical/religious exemption required during flu season (9/30 - 3/31)
  • Color blind exam (Ishihara or equivalent) with 100% minimum score
  • Skills checklist within 12 months, completed annually
  • Minimum 2 professional references from recent employment verified within 2 years (supervisory titles required)
  • Current employment application with explanation of any gaps over 30 days, covering 7 years

Orientation & Training Requirements

  • Completion of facility-specific orientation packets and compliance checklists prior to start
  • Mandatory completion of 22 required online modules before orientation (for applicable roles)
  • Unit competency exam and medication/pharmacology competency exam required

  • Indiana RN travelers are restricted from working at most facilities after 11/30/24, but Perioperative/OR RN travelers are exempt from this restriction

This position offers a challenging and rewarding opportunity for experienced OR RNs with trauma experience who are flexible and able to work call and holidays in a high-acuity acute care setting.
