Description

Registered Nurse (RN) – PCU/Med Surg/Oncology

Location: Omaha, Nebraska
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights
Hours: 12-hour shifts, 36 hours per week
Unit: PCU, Oncology, and Med Surg (Mixed Unit)
Beds: 27-28
Patient Population: Adult patients with oncology and trauma diagnoses


Job Details

  • Patient-to-nurse ratios:
    • PCU: 1:4
    • Med/Surg: 1:5 (days), 1:5-6 (nights)
  • Common patient diagnoses: Oncology and trauma
  • Common drips/medications: Chemotherapy, heparin, cardizem, protonix
  • Nurses may titrate drips such as insulin (occasionally) and cardizem
  • Float assignments to med/surg and PCU units at the same level of care
  • Orientation: 2 days
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend, self-scheduling available
  • Scrubs: Navy blue
  • Nursing assistant support and additional unit support staff available (PT/OT, RN case manager, social work, educator, dietician)
  • Specialty equipment: Ventilator, hemodynamic monitoring (CVP, A-line, Swan, EV-1000), ICP monitoring (training provided), Alaris IV pumps, Lyko lifts and other lift equipment

Required Certifications & Competencies

  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support) – AHA certified
  • NIHSS (National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale)
  • ONS/ONCC certification preferred but not required
  • Chemotherapy certification preferred but not required
  • Competency in ventilator and hemodynamic monitoring equipment (training provided)
  • EMR system: EPIC

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum 1 year of RN experience in PCU, oncology, or med/surg
  • Charge nurse experience requires at least 1 year
  • First-time travelers are accepted (prior travel experience not required)

Additional Requirements & Policies

  • Must pass a pass/fail exam during orientation with a minimum score of 90% (open book, resources provided)
  • Radius rule: Candidates must live within 50 miles and cannot be currently employed full-time, part-time, or PRN with any associated facilities within the specified health system
  • Driver’s license required at submission to verify distance
  • Artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas; refusal to comply will result in contract termination
  • Required documentation at submission: Date of birth, Social Security number, permanent address, recent EPIC experience (within 6 months, not mandatory), and confirmation of no prior employment with certain health systems
  • Return to work (RTO) must be within 7 days or less from contract start; no extensions allowed
