Description
Medical Surgical - Neuro Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Decatur, Illinois
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (18:00 - 06:30)
Hours per Week: 36 hours
Job Summary
- Acute care Med Surg Neuro nursing position with an average daily census of 32 patients.
- Work every other weekend required.
- Floating within scope of practice as needed.
- Block schedule requests can be discussed with the manager.
- Locals accepted with no radius restrictions.
- No on-call requirement.
- Must have an active Illinois nursing license.
- Return to Office (RTO) restrictions ideally no more than 5 days.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Illinois.
- Minimum 2 years of Med Surg / Telemetry nursing experience, with experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing.
- BLS issued by the American Heart Association.
- NIHSS certification.
- Experience with continuous bladder irrigation.
- Experience using Rapid Response Teams.
- Feeding tube care and management experience.
- Central line blood draws.
- PICC line management.
- Starting IVs.
- Experience caring for CVA (stroke) patients.
- Experience pre/post neurosurgery.
- Experience with spinal cord injuries.
- Experience with traumatic brain injury.
- Experience with surgical drains.
- Non-invasive airway management experience.
- Experience pre/post thoracic surgery.
- Experience with Cerner electronic medical record system.
Preferred Experience
- Teaching hospital experience.
- Trauma Level II experience.
Work Environment
- Acute care hospital with 372 staffed beds.
- Level II Trauma center.
- Royal blue scrub color.
- Cerner charting system.
- Parking permit required (no cost).
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Background checks covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years, updated annually.
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days prior to start.
- Primary source verification of state license and certifications.
- Competency exam required for clinical candidates.
- Photo for badge required within one week of signing contract.
- Signed code of conduct and flu vaccine exemption forms if applicable.
- Physical exam within one year of start, signed by an MD, NP, PA, or equivalent, confirming good physical and mental health and ability to perform job functions.
- Fit mask test required (3M 1860 small/regular, 1870, or 1870+ masks accepted).
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within one year of start.
- Annual TB questionnaire.
- Immunization or documented immunity for Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Hepatitis B, Varicella.
- 9-panel drug screen within 30 days of start.
- References: 2 professional references required.
- Skills checklist required for clinical candidates.
- Illinois-specific state searches including Most Wanted, Department of Corrections, and State Police registries within 30 days of start.
- Fingerprinting in Illinois required for clinical candidates without an IL license, completed 3 business days prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Candidate must be able to work night shifts and meet all clinical skill requirements.
- No first-time travel nurses accepted; prior travel experience is implied but not explicitly required.
- Guaranteed hours subject to client call-offs up to 36 hours per 13-week assignment without pay.
- Candidate may be floated to other units as needed within scope of practice.
This position is ideal for experienced Med Surg Neuro RNs with strong telemetry and critical care skills seeking a travel contract in Illinois.
