Description
Registered Nurse – Emergency Department
Location: Presque Isle, Maine
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: 7 PM – 7 AM (12-hour night shift)
Hours per Week: 36
Job Overview
- Immediate start needed
- Emergency Department with 11 beds (including 3 trauma beds, 1 behavioral seclusion room, 2 negative pressure rooms)
- Patient population ranges from neonates to geriatrics
- Patient types include trauma, stroke, STEMI, behavioral health, and general ED cases
- Teaching facility environment
Patient Ratios
- RN: 1:4 (variable based on patient acuity)
- Tech: 1:11
Required Certifications & Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Maine
- Associate of Science in Nursing / Associate Degree in Nursing
- Minimum 2 years of Emergency Department nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)
- Charge experience
- Familiarity with TNKase administration
- Initiating BiPAP
- Ventilator management
Support & Team
- Respiratory Therapist available on day shift; can be called in for unstable patients
- ED Provider and mid-level provider coverage (hours vary)
- 24/7 Hospitalist coverage
- House Supervisor and receptionist available 24/7
- Critical care transport team assistance in ED
- ED Techs with shifts covering 6 AM–4 PM and 6 PM–4 AM
- Security on site 24/7 (typically does not respond to patient escalations; other unit staff respond if needed)
- Traditional nursing staffing includes multiple overlapping shifts to cover the unit
Orientation & Scheduling
- Orientation includes 2 days hospital orientation (including time in the ED) plus 1 day with a preceptor
- Weekend rotation every other weekend
- No call required
- Holiday work as needed
- Time off requires manager approval

- No floating required
- Scrub color: Any professional color; hospital scrubs available but not required
