Job Opportunity: Respiratory Therapist (RRT)

Location: Fredericksburg, Virginia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Hours per Week: 36 hours


Job Description

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) required to float within scope to Emergency Room (ER) and Adult ICU Stepdown units.
  • Night shift role involving aerosol, bronchial hygiene, and lung inflation therapies.
  • Responsibilities include airway management, medication administration, arterial blood gas (ABG) draws and analysis, oxygen therapy, suctioning, pulmonary toileting, BiPAP, CPAP, and nebulizer treatments.
  • Experience preferred in NICU, ED, adult ICU, and level 2 trauma care.
  • Work setting includes adult critical care, ER, and community hospital environments.
  • Mandatory on-call requirement: 3 shifts every 6 weeks.
  • Weekend work required every other weekend plus every other holiday.
  • No block scheduling allowed.
  • Locals accepted.
  • Attendance at monthly department meetings required (or acknowledgment of meeting minutes if not working).

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Respiratory Care Practitioner license in Virginia
  • Minimum 4 years of experience as a Respiratory Care Practitioner, including experience within the last year
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Experience in charge roles

Preferred Qualifications

  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential.
  • Experience in NICU, ED, adult ICU, and level 2 trauma center preferred.

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Physical exam within 1 year prior to start.
  • Negative TB test or chest X-ray per facility policy.
  • Drug screening within 30 days prior to start.
  • Immunizations or immunity documentation for:
    • Measles (Rubeola)
    • Mumps
    • Rubella
    • Hepatitis B
    • Varicella
    • Seasonal Flu vaccination (or approved medical/religious exemption).
  • COVID-19 vaccination documentation or declination.
  • Fit mask (N95) certification required and must be updated annually.
  • Background checks including criminal, education verification, and federal/state registries.
  • References: Two required from supervisors/managers within the last 2 years (outside of this facility if previously employed here).
  • Employment application and work history verification (minimum 2 years; 10 years if only CRT license held).
  • Completion of facility-specific orientation, confidentiality, code of conduct, and Epic experience screening forms.
  • Completion of required competency exams and color blindness testing.
  • Attendance and acknowledgment of monthly department meetings.

  • Facility is a short-term acute care hospital with 431 staffed beds and a Level II Trauma Center.
  • Charting system: Epic.
  • Parking is free.
  • Guaranteed hours subject to billing rules.
  • Return to office (RTO) restrictions at manager’s discretion.
