ICU Registered Nurse Travel/Contract Job – Huntington, West Virginia
Position Details
- Job Title: ICU Registered Nurse
- Location: Huntington, West Virginia
- Employment Type: Travel/Contract
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Rotating 3x12 hour shifts (Day 7:00 AM–7:00 PM / Night 7:00 PM–7:00 AM)
- Scheduling: Self-scheduling with variable rotation cadence (may rotate monthly, biweekly, or occasionally weekly; no swaps within the same week or within a couple of days)
- Hours per Week: 36 hours
Required Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in West Virginia
- Minimum 2 years of ICU (Intensive Care Unit) nursing experience, including experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) certification
- NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification
Compliance & Documentation Requirements
- Identification:
- Government-issued photo ID required and must be carried during hours of service
- Background Checks:
- 7-year criminal background check within 1 year of start, updated annually
- Background check within 30 days of start
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks within 30 days of start and updated for contract renewals
- Health & Immunizations:
- Physical exam within 1 year attesting ability to meet physical demands
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray (QGold or T-Spot within 6 months, updated annually; CXR if history of positive TB)
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap within 10 years
- Hepatitis B surface antibody and antigen titer within 6 months, plus vaccination series or declination form
- Measles (Rubeola), Mumps, Rubella, Varicella: Positive titer or 2 vaccine doses required
- Hepatitis A total antibody within 6 months
- Hepatitis C antibody within 6 months; if positive, quantitative RNA PCR testing required
- Seasonal flu vaccine required annually by October 31 through April 30; medical or religious exemptions require approval
- COVID-19 seasonal vaccine required; initial series preferred; declination form required if opting out
- Drug screen within 30 days of start including confirmation values for specified substances
- Onsite N95 fit testing (candidates must be clean-shaven for fit test)
- Facility-Specific Documents:
- Orientation and annual education review and attestation prior to start
- Confidentiality agreement and IT access agreement must be completed before start
- Vaccine exemption forms (medical and religious) must be submitted and approved prior to start if applicable
- TB screening questionnaire required
- Hepatitis B declination form if applicable
- COVID-19 declination form if applicable
- Account creation for timekeeping prior to start
Competencies & Evaluations
- Medication test/pharmacology competency exam as applicable
- General competency exam required
- Skills checklist must be updated annually for applicable units
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations required
- Performance evaluations required if employed over 1 year; internal evaluations if over 2 years

- The ICU environment requires flexibility with rotating shifts and adherence to strict compliance and credentialing standards.
