Description
Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Winfield, Kansas
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Nights, 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Weekend Requirement: Every third weekend
Job Overview
- Work in a critical access hospital setting, primarily covering after the second shift.
- Must be able to manage high-risk labor and delivery cases including vaginal deliveries, forceps/vacuum-assisted deliveries, C-sections, and surgical cases such as cervical cerclage.
- Neonatal and newborn care responsibilities included.
- Skills required: sterile speculum exams, NST (non-stress tests), reflex checks, sterile vaginal exams, external fetal monitoring (EFM), IV insertion and management, medication administration, pain management, and postpartum care.
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Kansas
- Minimum 2 years of Labor and Delivery nursing experience, with experience within the last year
- Completion of at least one travel nursing assignment
- ACLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by American Red Cross or American Heart Association
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Ability to assist with sterile speculum exams
- Experience with NST (non-stress tests)
Facility & Compliance Requirements
- Government-issued photo ID must be carried during work hours.
- Background checks including a 7-year criminal history, SS trace, nationwide checks, sex offender registry, and education verification.
- Required screenings and verifications: EPLS/GSA/SAM, HHS/OIG, state-specific exclusion lists.
- Education verification and transcripts/diplomas required for highest level of education.
- Physical exam confirming ability to meet job demands, updated annually.
- Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 1 year, updated annually.
- Immunizations or titers required for:
- Measles (Rubeola)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, vaccine series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Drug screening: 9 or 10 panel drug test within the last 12 months.
- Annual flu vaccination or documented declination accepted for medical or religious reasons.
Documentation & Training
- Proof of 2 clinical references or hospital evaluations.
- Performance evaluations required if employed over 1 year at previous facility.
- Complete employment application/resume required.
- Skills checklist for applicable unit, updated annually.
- Completion of onboarding education and risk management training prior to start.
- Required competency exams including medication/pharmacology competency.
- Annual proof of OSHA, HIPAA, and Joint Commission training or signed attestations.
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs.
Additional Notes
- Locals are allowed to apply and will be paid at the same rate as travelers.
- No radius restrictions for applicants.
- EMR system used is Centricity (preferred).
- Block scheduling is reviewed on a case-by-case basis by management.
This position is ideal for experienced labor and delivery nurses with prior travel experience seeking a night shift contract in a critical access hospital environment.
