Job Opportunity: Cath Lab Registered Nurse
Location: Clearwater, Florida
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Job Summary
- Position: Cath Lab Registered Nurse
- Shift: Day shift, 4 days per week, 10 hours per day (7:00 AM – 5:30 PM)
- Facility Type: Short Term Acute Care, Teaching Hospital
- Total Staffed Beds: 599
- Charting System: Cerner EMR (preferred)
- Scrub Color: Royal Blue
- Parking: Included
Required Experience & Skills
- Minimum 2 years of Registered Nurse experience (higher requirement takes precedence)
- First-time travelers not accepted
- Circulating and conscious sedation skills required
- Experience with patient diagnoses including Coronary Disease, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Valvular Disease, STEMI/NSTEMI, and Unstable Angina (USA)
- Experience with special procedures: Cardiac Cath, High Risk PCI, Peripheral Interventions, Carotid Stents, Research, and work-up for TAVR/Mitraclip
- Familiarity with special equipment: Impella, Shockwave, Rotoblator, CSI, IABP, Laser
- On-call required as needed
- No floating outside scope of practice
- No weekend requirement
- No block scheduling or local candidates accepted
Required Certifications
- ACLS (AHA only, RQI accepted)
- BLS (AHA only, RQI accepted)
- COVID-19 vaccination required (medical or religious exemptions accepted)
Licensure
- Active, unrestricted Florida RN license required (Primary source verification required)
- NURSYS verification required for all RNs
- Driver’s License required and must remain current throughout assignment
Compliance & Background Checks
- Background check within 1 year of start date, including:
- 7 years of residence/work/school history
- SS Trace, County searches, Nationwide, Sex Offender, Education Verification
- EPLS/GSA/SAM and HHS/OIG checks required
- Foreign equivalency evaluation required if education was completed outside the US or Puerto Rico
- Education verification required for all healthcare professionals
- Florida AHCA Level II fingerprinting required prior to start (Livescan electronic fingerprinting)
- Drug testing: Standard 9-panel within 30 days of start (instant tests not accepted)
Health & Safety Requirements
- Physical exam within 6 months of start
- Negative TB test (PPD, Qgold, or Tspot) within 10 weeks of start; chest X-ray and TB questionnaire if prior positive PPD
- Annual TB questionnaire required in lieu of annual TB test
- Required immunizations or titers with boosters as needed:
- Rubeola (Measles)
- Mumps
- Rubella
- Hepatitis B (titer, series, or declination)
- Varicella
- Seasonal flu vaccination or declination with mask requirement during flu season
- COVID-19 vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions accepted)
- Respirator medical clearance annually if respirator use is required
Competency & Testing Requirements
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam (score ≥ 80%) as applicable
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Cath Lab and other specified units; lethal arrhythmia score must be 100%
- Color blind testing (Relias Color Blind Exam) prior to start
- Stroke education CEUs and NIH Stroke Certification as applicable (units like ER, ICU, PCU/Stepdown, MS/Tele, MedSurg)
- Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) certification if applicable (behavioral health, psych ER)
Facility-Specific Requirements
- Photo for badge: clear, professional, solid background, no filters or cropped images
- Dress code and tobacco policy acknowledgment required
- Completion of BayCare Online Learning Center modules prior to start (4-8 hours)
- Account registration and module completion deadline: Thursday prior to start date
- Extensions or returning candidates with 30+ day gap must reactivate account and complete new modules
- Fit mask acknowledgment required
Documentation & History
- Two professional references from the past 2 years required
- Employment application and skills checklist required
- All documents must be uploaded and available for facility review
Additional Notes
- Guaranteed hours apply after the first call-off per pay period
- No Return to Office (RTO) restrictions in contract
- Candidates requiring interviews may be subject to screening; offers prioritized for those not requiring interviews
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Florida
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
- Minimum 2 years of Cardiac Cath Lab experience, including experience within the last year
- Circulating skills
- Conscious sedation skills
- ACLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
- BLS certification issued by the American Heart Association
This position is ideal for experienced Cath Lab RNs with required certifications and skills, ready to work a consistent day shift in a high-acuity acute care setting.
