Registered Nurse (Float Pool) - Illinois

Contract Details

• Length: 13 weeks
• Shift: Nights
• Hours per day: 12
• Hours per week: 48
• Weekend requirement: Every other weekend
• Holiday requirement: Every other holiday
• Call/standby: Not usually required

Department & Units

• Float Pool covering multiple units:

  • MedSurg (5 units)
  • Med Peds (5 units)
  • Telemetry IMCU
  • Rehab
  • Behavioral Health (including adolescent and adult)
• Nurse-to-patient ratios:

  • MedSurg/Med Peds: 1:5-6
  • IMCU: 1:5
• CNAs present with 1:10 ratio; additional nursing staff added if CNA coverage is low
• Remote telemetry monitoring on Med/Tele units with 24/7 monitor tech support; ICU handles own telemetry strips

Required Certifications & Licenses

• Illinois RN license (must have in hand)
• BLS (Basic Life Support)
• ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
• NIHSS certification preferred
• Valid Driver’s License required for submission

Experience & Skills

• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• Prior float pool experience preferred
• EPIC electronic medical record experience required
• No first-time travelers accepted for this float pool role
• Cath lab recovery experience for IMCU preferred
• Prior travel experience preferred but not mandatory

Clinical Responsibilities

• Full patient assignments; no team nursing currently
• No titration of drips except heparin per protocol
• Common titratable medications in IMCU: amiodarone, cardizem, dobutamine, lasix, insulin (glucomander)
• Common diagnoses: acute surgical, orthopedic/neuro, med surg, detox, hospice, pediatric respiratory illnesses, telemetry post-surgical, CHF, chest pain, radial catheter procedures, chest tubes (mainly IMCU), high renal population (peritoneal dialysis), rehab IVs, Bipap/CPAP at night if home use
• Nurses may assist RT with nebulizer treatments upon request; vents managed by RT in ICU only
• Charge nurse role: team lead during day (no patients), charge nurse on nights/weekends/holidays (takes patients)

Orientation & Scheduling

• Unit-specific orientation: 1 twelve-hour shift on assigned unit
• Shift assignments communicated up to 1 hour before shift start
• Scrub color: Caribbean blue
