Registered Nurse (OR RN) – Indiana, Fort Wayne
Position Overview
- Specialty: Operating Room Registered Nurse (OR RN)
- Contract Length: 13 weeks
- Shift: Day shift, typically 06:30 AM – 07:00 PM
- Hours per week: 36 hours (12-hour shifts)
- Weekend on-call rotation required, including night call and full weekend call
- No floating to other units/departments
Job Duties & Unit Information
- Main OR cases include trauma, general surgery, colorectal, gynecology, and orthopedic cases primarily on weekends
- Occasional minor cardiovascular and minor neurological cases requiring second circulating or scrubbing
- North OR cases include pediatric, NICU, breast cancer, urology, plastics, ENT, pediatric endocrine, general surgery, and gynecology
- Expected to open cases and prepare the OR room
- Function independently during late stay shifts (North OR) with available support
- No night shifts or weekends in North OR except for NICU emergencies covered by volunteers
- Main OR has 12 core OR rooms (general, ortho, neuro) plus 4 cardiovascular ORs
- North OR has 4 OR rooms
Required Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of OR RN circulator experience
- Active Indiana RN license or compact RN license
- BLS (AHA only) certification required
- ACLS (AHA only) certification required
- Call is required (night and weekend coverage)
Orientation & Training
- Orientation is mandatory for all 7 days:
- Week 1: Monday through Friday (8-hour days)
- Week 2: Monday and Tuesday (8-hour days)
- Orientation includes specialty training and weekend shifts
- Weekend volume during orientation includes inpatient and trauma cases
Equipment & Systems
- EPIC EMR charting platform used
- Standard Pyxis medication system for nursing; dedicated Pyxis for anesthesia in every OR
Additional Information
- Hospital-provided scrubs
- Local clinicians within 50 miles may be subject to a rate adjustment (not included here)
- Call-off policy allows cancellation up to 24 hours before the shift for the 13-week assignment
- 8 hours of non-billable orientation; clinicians returning within 12 months are not eligible for non-billable orientation
This position is ideal for experienced OR RNs seeking a 13-week contract with a focus on trauma, general, and specialty surgical cases in a well-equipped hospital setting with structured orientation and mandatory call coverage.
