Job Opportunity: Registered Nurse - Labor & Delivery
Location
- Seguin, Texas
Contract Length
- 13 weeks
Unit Details
- Labor & Delivery (L&D) with 9 private L&D beds (each with private bathroom and sofa sleeper)
- 2 C-Section Operating Suites
- 4 Triage beds
- 12 private Postpartum beds
- Approximately 2-6 deliveries per day, 900+ births per year
- Neonatologist on staff Monday-Friday during the day
- OB provider available nearby during the day (not in-house 24/7)
- Respiratory Therapy available 24/7
- Pharmacy hours limited evenings and weekends; pharmacist on-call as needed
Shift & Schedule
- Night shift: 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM
- 36 hours per week
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend (Nights on Fri/Sat/Sun; Days on Sat/Sun)
- No call required
- Holidays covered by permanent staff rotation
Patient Care & Responsibilities
- Circulate in C-sections, tubal ligations, and DNCs (C-section experience required)
- Care for L&D patients 35 weeks and above, including multiples and twin vaginal deliveries
- No serious high-risk or VBAC patients
- Postpartum and nursery care required; no GYN patients except rare overflow
- Floating required within the Birthing Center and occasionally to other units (non-infectious patients only)
- Nurse-to-patient ratios: L&D 1:2 (1:1 for high risk or active labor), Postpartum 1:2-3 couplets
- Hourly rounding on days; every 2 hours on nights
- Bedside report policy being implemented hospital-wide
Orientation & Support
- Floor-specific orientation includes 1 shift with a preceptor
- Charge nurse available (may take patients if needed)
- OB Techs assist as nurse aides and function as CNAs when no C-sections
- Scrubs provided for OR (pink color, any shade)
Required Certifications & Skills
- Current RN license
- BLS, ACLS, and NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certifications required
- Intermediate Fetal Heart Monitoring (FHM) certification required
- STABLE certification highly preferred (required for permanent staff)
- Must be able to circulate in the OR for C-sections
- Experience in MedSurg or other units helpful for floating assignments

- Birthing Center is a secure, locked unit
- Digital care boards used for patient information and care plans
- Positive, professional attitude required; no tolerance for tardiness, laziness, or excessive phone use
- Lactation support offered in-room and post-delivery
- Recognized with 5-Star rating for vaginal deliveries by Healthgrades for 4 consecutive years
This position is ideal for experienced L&D nurses comfortable with C-section circulation and nursery care, seeking a supportive and well-equipped hospital environment.
