Description
Registered Nurse – Labor & Delivery
Location: Henderson, Nevada
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Shift: Days
Hours per Day: 12
Hours per Week: 36
Unit Overview
- Labor & Delivery unit with 17 L&D beds
- 2 OR suites dedicated for C-sections
- 4 triage beds and 16 postpartum beds
- Approximately 250 births per month
- Level 3 high-risk facility
- OB/Neonatologist and anesthesia available in-house 24/7
- Respiratory therapy equipment available; patients requiring ventilation are transferred to ICU
- No Telemetry/Monitor Techs on unit; RNs read fetal monitor strips remotely monitored from ICU
- Electronic Fetal Monitoring system: Cerner
Patient Care Ratios
- Normal laboring moms: 2:1 ratio
- High-risk labors: 1:1 ratio
- Couplet care: 4:1 ratio
- Antepartum care: 2:1 to 4:1 depending on acuity
Required Certifications
- BLS (Basic Life Support)
- ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support)
- AWHONN Advanced Fetal Monitoring (AFM)
- NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program)
Required Skills & Experience
- Confident and independent with vaginal exams and internal monitor placement
- Experience managing high-risk laboring/delivery and antepartum patients
- Ability to circulate and recover C-section patients
- Flexibility to float to Mother-Baby unit and other units as needed
- Ability to titrate drips including Magnesium Sulfate, Pitocin, Insulin, and Heparin
Scheduling & Work Environment
- Self-scheduling requests submitted and balanced by a scheduling committee
- Weekend requirement: every other weekend
- Holiday shifts as needed
- No call or standby requirement
- Charge nurse takes assignments only when unit is at maximum capacity
- Orientation for travelers: 3 days on unit
- Dress code: Navy blue scrubs; light blue OR scrubs for nurse use
Ancillary Staff Support
- Certified Surgical Techs and Secretaries available on unit
Additional Notes
- Nurses are required to read their own fetal monitor strips effectively
- Floating to postpartum unit required as needed
