Description
Registered Nurse (RN) - Neurology
Location: Reno, Nevada
Employment Type: Travel
Contract Length: 13 weeks
Unit & Work Environment
- Department: Intermediate Care Unit (IMCU)
- Shift: Nights, 3 shifts of 12 hours (18:45 - 07:15)
- Weekly Hours: 36 guaranteed
- Call: None required
- Floating: May be required to float within competency level
- Schedule: May include weekends, holidays, and additional shifts as needed
- Holiday Requirement: Must work 2 of the 3 major holidays (Eve + Day = 1 holiday)
- Environment: Extremely busy, fast-paced, comparable to Level I trauma center
- Patient Population: Adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients with moderate to severe medical conditions including post ischemic/hemorrhagic stroke, sepsis, cardiac, and respiratory issues
- Unit Size: 18 beds
- Focus: Moderately complex assessments and therapies, moderate nursing vigilance
Required Qualifications
- Valid RN license in Nevada
- Minimum 1 year of neurology experience within the last year
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN)
Job Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive nursing care using the nursing process (assessment, planning, implementation, evaluation)
- Manage individualized patient outcomes over entire episodes of care
- Care for patients with complex medical and neurological conditions
- Coordinate care with multidisciplinary teams and involve family/caregivers when appropriate
- Exercise clinical judgment and decision-making under continuous mental effort
- Maintain quality standards and age-specific competencies for adolescent, adult, and geriatric populations

- The facility is a Level II Trauma Center with stroke accreditation
- Serves a large regional area with high patient volume
- Advanced technologies and specialized programs available, including heart failure center, neurosciences institute, robotic surgery, and advanced imaging modalities
- Travelers may be subject to shift cancellations with 48 hours’ notice due to census fluctuations
This position offers the opportunity to work in a high-acuity, multidisciplinary environment requiring strong critical care nursing skills and adaptability.
