Job Opportunity: Labor and Delivery Registered Nurse (Travel/Contract)

Location: Hood River, Oregon
Contract Length: 13 weeks


Job Description

  • Position primarily on Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum (LDRP) unit.
  • Floating between units based on needs and skill set is required.
  • Shifts: Primarily day shifts (7:00 AM - 7:00 PM), may cover night shifts (7:00 PM - 7:00 AM).
  • Schedule: 3 shifts per week, 12 hours each (36 hours/week).
  • Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
  • On-call: Not required.
  • Patient Ratios:
    • Active labor: 1:1 (AWHONN standard)
    • Postpartum: 1:3
  • 48-hour shifts approved.
  • Must have a vehicle for assignment.

Required Qualifications

  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Oregon.
  • Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
  • Minimum 1 year of Labor and Delivery experience, including Labor Delivery Recovery & Postpartum (LDRP) experience.
  • Labor and Delivery experience within the last year.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification.
  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Experience Requirements

  • Specialty experience: Minimum 1 year in Labor and Delivery, 2 years preferred.
  • Prior travel experience: Not required (1st timers accepted).

Compliance and Documentation Requirements

  • Government-issued photo ID (Driver’s License/State ID).
  • Social Security Card (as applicable).
  • Background check within 90 days covering all locations lived/worked in past 7 years; updated annually.
  • E-Verify attestation required.
  • Education verification for nursing degree; international education requires diploma/transcript or CES report.
  • Physical exam within 1 year of start, signed by MD, NP, PA, or DO.
  • Immunizations and health screenings:
    • Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (within 10 years; declination accepted).
    • Negative TB test or chest X-ray within 12 months; updated annually.
    • MMR (Measles, Mumps, Rubella) vaccination or positive titer; declination accepted.
    • Hepatitis B vaccination or signed declination; titers accepted.
    • Varicella vaccination or positive titer; declination accepted.
    • Seasonal flu vaccine during flu season (declination accepted).
    • COVID vaccination record preferred; declinations not required but unvaccinated must follow masking policies.
  • Drug screening: 9-panel within 12 months; updated as needed.
  • Respiratory safety clearance for respirator use, medically cleared annually (travel only).
  • References: Minimum 2 references covering 1 year of employment in a comparable specialty/setting within last 3 years.
  • Employment application covering at least last 5 years.
  • Skills checklist updated annually as applicable.
  • Photo for badge (passport style with neutral background).

Additional Requirements

  • Must acknowledge and comply with float policy; may be required to float to other nearby facilities.
  • Must complete annual regulatory and specialty-specific training modules via assigned LMS platform.
  • Must complete Epic training modules as assigned.

Notes

  • Floating to other units and facilities is common and may include locations within reasonable distance.
  • Floating to certain locations may include additional incentives and accommodations.
  • No on-call required.
  • Weekend work every other weekend is mandatory.

This position is ideal for RNs with Labor and Delivery experience seeking a travel contract role in a critical access hospital setting with a supportive teaching environment.
