Description
Critical Care Float Nurse (Travel/Contract)
Location: Cartersville, Georgia
Employment Type: Travel/Contract
Shift: Night (3 shifts per week, 12 hours each, 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM)
Contract Length: 8 weeks
Job Overview
- Float pool position requiring coverage throughout the hospital, including the Emergency Department.
- Floating within facility and scope of practice as needed.
- Weekend schedule: every other weekend.
- No call required.
- No block schedule requests allowed.
- Expected to work major holidays if they fall within the assignment period (up to two holidays).
Requirements/Qualifications
- Valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in Georgia.
- Minimum 2 years of float nursing experience, with float experience within the last year.
- Associate of Science in Nursing (ASN) or Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.
Compliance & Orientation
- Full compliance with all documentation and credentialing required to start on time.
- Orientation scheduled bi-weekly; failure to comply on time may delay start by 2 weeks.
- Non-billable orientation hours depend on contract length (e.g., 8 hours for 8-week assignment).
Health & Background Requirements
- Negative 10-panel drug screen within 60 days of start (including amphetamines, benzodiazepines, barbiturates, cocaine, opiates, methadone, PCP, propoxyphene, THC).
- Physical exam within 12 months of start (not required by client but required by agency).
- Background check completed within 30 days of start; must include county, national, sex offender, criminal, FACIS 3, and education verification.
- TB test (PPD, QGold, or TSpot) within 12 months or chest x-ray if positive history.
- Annual TB questionnaire required regardless of TB test result.
- Immunizations or proof of immunity required:
- Measles, Mumps, Rubella (2 MMR vaccines or positive titer)
- Varicella (2 vaccines or positive titer)
- Hepatitis B surface antibody titer or signed declination
- Tetanus/Diphtheria/Tdap (Tdap highly recommended)
- Seasonal flu vaccine or declination required during flu season (Nov 1 – Mar 31)
Competency Exams & Testing
- Medication/Pharmacology competency exam required by agency for RNs.
- Dysrhythmia/EKG competency exam required for Telemetry, ICU, ER, and related units; up to 3 attempts allowed.
- Color blindness test required for all candidates; alternative assessment available if needed.
- General competency exam required by agency for nursing staff.
Documentation & Other Requirements
- Two clinical references required by agency.
- Skills checklist updated within the last 12 months.
- Verification of most recent work history required; can be pending at start with proof it is in process.
- Candidate must review and sign facility-specific Code of Conduct and Dress/Professional Appearance policies prior to start.
Additional Notes
- Locals accepted at the same rate as travelers.
- Major holidays include Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving/Black Friday, Christmas Eve/Day, New Year’s Eve/Day.
- Candidate profile review by manager occurs within 48 hours of confirmation to determine fit for unit/schedule/expertise.
- No block schedule requests allowed.
